  1. Are you going to post fixes for the problems that develop when people start changing these things?DON"T MESS WITH IT!!!!
  2. Again, follow the directions without adding or subtracting from them. They also sent two totally separate sets of instructions clearly labeled "Standalone Computer" and "Installation Network." The installation instructions are very clear and precise this year. DON'T CHANGE THEM!!
  3. I have a special interest in this information.
  4. So put it in your tag line. (signature) I solved the problem straight up.
  5. The ATX instructions were written before the release version was rebuilt in early November. If you want the program to work smoothly, DON'T MESS WITH IT! The OP said he was trying to move the data storage as well as the backup locations. DON'T MESS WITH IT!!! I have tons of pertinent information that I am not allowed to disclose due to my NDA. I have requests in to CCH legal for permission to tell, now that the program has been released. Anyone who wishes to listen to my recommendations will have a smoother experience. If you need individual help, send me a PM.
  6. Don't bother trying to change it. Forget all you knew about installation and running of previous versions of ATX. Read my installation post.
  7. With so much diversity in State taxes, it would be helpful if everyone told what state they live in. That way, we can direct questions about a particular state tax problem to the professionals that live there. Of course, I am from Ohio. GO BUCS!!! EDIT by Eric: I hope Jack doesn't mine me using his post to get the word out I've removed the "Location" profile field and put in place one for "State" which is a drop-down where you have to choose a state abbreviation. It is a required profile field and must be filled in for new member registrations. Making it a drop-down field instead of a free text box will make it much easier (and more reliable) to search in the Member profiles. Please click here to edit your profile information. Select your state near the bottom of the page.
  8. WRONG for 2013!!!
  9. For 2013, you must forget EVERYTHING you knew about ATX prior. EVERYTHING. No more mapped drives. No choosing where the program installs. Nothing is the same as before. No RDP or virtual networking. Not only does the program not support it, remote networking from another office violates the license agreement. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS with out changing anything!! I see everyone "falling back" to what was done in prior years. FORGET IT!! Stop rethinking and changing the process, then complaining when it does not work. I have installed 2013 in all possible configurations on 3 different networks. Install will work if directions are followed. Now if you want individual help, send me a message. I have the correct answers.
  10. You did NOT follow the directions. Nuff said. No networking of drives and no standalones in a network. What did you do with the instruction sheet? Tech support still sucks! Contact me, I will help you.
  11. So the actual hardware that plugs into the device is free. The service to process the cards has enrollment and processing fees.
  12. Update ATX to Version 13.1 If you installed ATX from the DVD, be sure to download and install the 13.1 update. You can do this from within ATX using the Program update button or by going to the Download Center at the MyATX Solution Center (www.myatx.com). Version 13.1 includes important updates for pre-season tasks. For details, read the Release Notes. This is crucial to proper operation of the 2013 program. More information as I investigate how it works.
  13. I do not use it, but there are processing fees and I believe enrollment fees. But NOT FREE.
  14. I have observed the "training and testing" that some of the online CPE mills do. As a result of my observations, there are MANY that are simply selling the credits. Especially the cheaper ones.
  15. Skeptical...
  16. Ignore what you read. Contact me. Check your messages.
  17. Does anyone have experience with getting accuracy penalty applied, as a result of an audit, reduced or abated? Client was audited for 2010. Her record keeping was atrocious. Audit resulted in additional tax of $10,000 due to underreporting of income both personal and as a sole proprietor. Client insists that she should ask for reductions or abatement. Auditor has stated that the only way she would abate the client accuracy penalty is if preparer penalties were imposed. Now we have documented all the information that was given to us as well as the responses to questions we asked. There was no discussion during the audit about our processes or accuracy. Second question: Has anyone heard this "one or the other" penalty position the auditor is taking? I am looking for additional answers to give to the client to help her understand that she should "leave this Pandora's Box closed."
  18. There are several other MAJOR issues they left on the table in order to bring a workable 2013 to the table. Copy & Paste to a Word document. Export Client information and mail merge the letters.
  19. There will not be any fixes for the 2012 program. NONE. I don't use the organizer, and I don't know the workaround.
  20. It will try to connect to the ATX server, but will not be successful. Then it will install all the forms from the CD. After that, updates to the server should work.
  21. Did you leave the CD in when you started the program the first time? If not, in preferences, turn on "update whenever the program is opened.' Close the program. Put the CD back in the drive. Wait for the autostart and cancel the installation. Open the program. Wait....
  22. Did you install from the CD or download the file from the website?
  23. I do not do any advertising. I tried it about 5 years ago for 2 years running. The ads only netted barely enough business to cover the advertising costs. I get all my business growth from referrals.
  24. I have already earned 24 CPE credits, with 4 for ethics, from the update training and IRS Forums I went to. I have no need to "purchase" CPEs. I purchase training and EARN CPEs. I have 4 more days scheduled for a total of 32 more. Do you think I meet my "requirement?"
  25. How often are the images on Google Earth refreshed? The on-ground picture of my house is 4 years old.
