Catherine, assuming you still use Drake, you enter the gross amount in Box 1 and Box 2. Then click the link at the top of the entry screen that says "special tax treatments" and enter the amount of the QCD on that page. If you do this you may trigger a CP 2000 -

All you would need is one bank statement from 2024 and you could calculate the same amounts as would show up on the SSA 1099.

You can download one online after you set up an online account. Actually, setting up an online account is a very good idea since it will prevent your account from being hijacked and your monthly benefits monthly redirected.

The assets come out at FMV which when I have prepared one of these resulted in taxable gains.

IRS Pub 526 "Partial Interest in Property Generally, you can't deduct a charitable contribution of less than your entire interest in property. Right to use property. A contribution of the right to use property is a contribution of less than your entire interest in that property and isn't deductible. Example 1. You own a 10-story office building and donate rent-free use of the top floor to a qualified organization. Because you still own the building, you have contributed a partial interest in the property and can't take a deduction for the contribution. Example 2. You own a vacation home at the beach and sometimes rent it to others. For a fundraising auction at church, you donated the right to use the vacation home for 1 week. At the auction, the church received and accepted a bid equal to the fair rental value of the home for 1 week. You can't claim a deduction because of the partial interest rule. The auction winner can't claim a deduction either, because of the received benefit equal to the amount of the auction winner’s payment."

You need to add depreciation to the actual expenses before you analyze the situation.
-
If this happens I will be glad to write correspondence, but I am not going spend hours on hold. Everything will just take much longer and the processing backlogs for amended tax returns will increase dramatically.

Then why does the 1099 C have the name and EIN of the S Corp? Why didn't the S Corp pay the liability? It sounds like you have already decided what you want to do?
-
If this was a debt of the corporation, it seems like the S Corp would have been receiving statements and collection notices which it should have paid. Therefore the 1099 C would be the responsibility of the S Corp.

March 2,2025 "The Treasury Department is announcing today that, with respect to the Corporate Transparency Act, not only will it not enforce any penalties or fines associated with the beneficial ownership information reporting rule under the existing regulatory deadlines, but it will further not enforce any penalties or fines against U.S. citizens or domestic reporting companies or their beneficial owners after the forthcoming rule changes take effect either." "The Treasury Department will further be issuing a proposed rulemaking that will narrow the scope of the rule to foreign reporting companies only." https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0038 These changes were like a leaky faucet, drip, drip, drip . . . . . . now it's gusher!!!
