  1. Yes with help of AI, the scammers are getting more sophisticated and polished.
  2. "What information is available? You can start checking on the status of your refund within 24 hours after e-filing a tax year 2023 return 3 or 4 days after e-filing a tax year 2021 or 2022 return 4 weeks after mailing a return Where’s My Refund? will give you a personalized refund date after we process your return and approve your refund. The tracker displays progress through three stages: Return Received Refund Approved Refund Sent To use Where’s My Refund? you need to provide your Social Security number or individual taxpayer ID number (ITIN), filing status, and exact whole dollar amount of your expected refund."
  3. Copied from Forbes Tax Breaks Newsletter: "The tax code generally requires the IRS to make a tax assessment within three years from the return filing date or the return filing deadline, whichever is later. But a recent Tax Court case, Murrin v. Comm’r, T.C. Memo. 2024-10, confirmed a decision that the statute of limitations remained open indefinitely where a tax preparer engaged in fraud, even where the taxpayer did not. In Murrin, roughly 20 years had passed since the filing of their returns, and they argued that the statute of limitations had passed. The Tax Court disagreed." Interesting case which caught my attention
  4. Sounds like commuting mileage
  5. Really, you don't worry malware that might attached?
  6. I agree, if the TIN and the $ amount is correct I wouldn't worry about it. People move all the time, which doesn't require an amended W 2 or 1099.
  7. See IRS Fact Sheet 2023 - 27: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-2023-form-1099-k-reporting-threshold-delay-for-third-party-platform-payments-plans-for-a-5000-threshold-in-2024-to-phase-in-implementation
  8. Perhaps you're thinking about the delay in filing 1099 K, which did not suspend the tax. Sounds like reportable income to me.
  9. When I used to use ATX, the software required the forms in the prior years returns to be the current version before the you could rollover to the next year?
  10. The bill passed in the House 357 - 70. News reports say that it's uncertain what will happen in the Senate?
  11. In that case amend the 941s and have the payment to the HSA reversed.
  12. I have run into that problem when I have user names saved. So I had to delete some names to avoid this problem.
  13. Really, a pastor is an independent contractor? Well, that's a flexible definition
  14. The first time I tried to use login.gov to log into the SSA BSO on Saturday, it failed. The second I tried using a different link to the SSA BSO, it worked. Who knows?
  15. This bill was scheduled for a vote in The House this week. Now it's been held up by Republican House members from New York who want the $10,000 SALT cap increased.
  16. I think Abby has posted several times about using Google for faxes. I gave up my fax line about 3 or 4 years ago, which hasn't caused me any problems.
  17. In my state a licensed contractor would be able to file a lien against the property built in order to ensure payment.
  18. Kind of like the promotions I receive for "Living Trust Seminars with a free dinner"
  19. One downside to AI is it's helped the scammers to look more polished. The IRS has been sending out notices that the amount of phishing directed toward practitioners is at an all time high!
  20. Each financial institution has it's own matching rules
  21. If you search heic to jpeg or heic to pdf, a number of options pop up, most of them appear to be apps.
  22. No way, Facebook is a very aggressive data miner.
  23. The logic behind having each property as a separate LLC is for legal liability protection. Not treating the LLC as separate entities for tax filing purposes may create legal liability protection problems. A knowledgeable attorney in your state should be consulted before you decide how to file.
  24. For many years we have had a similar but parallel system called "MilTax", that allows active duty, reserve, national guard members and their survivors to file their tax returns for free.
