I can't go live off the grid and pay for everything with cash. Personally I want to limit the number of institutions that think they need all of my personal information. For example, my doctor's office wants to scan my Drivers License every time I check for an appointment. I will show it to them, but I won't let them scan it. There is lengthy list of businesses, institutions and governmental agencies that have been hacked. All I can do is freeze my credit and limit the exposure of my personal information.

Of course, it's wages and employer taxes that you have paid. It doesn't matter whether it's for the original repair billed to the customer or for a repair of a parts failure or for general maintenance in the shop. The only exception would be the capitalization of employee labor related to the installation of new shop equipment You may be overthinking this

The actual wages paid plus employer payroll taxes, which I assume you would already be deducting anyway.

I fill out a number of different BLS Surveys for my business clients. Some of them are simple and some of them are a very long PITA! -
Perhaps this is the programmed response to high call volume?

I am sure the DOGE will get this resolved.

I just bump up my tax prep fee when I have clients that do that. If their questions would require a tax projection for the coming year , I give them a quote for in advance.
-
I only charge extra when the client's question requires research and a written response.
-
I do the opposite. I keep the business clients and try to rid of the personal tax returns. Business clients are way more profitable.

There has been a quite a few news stories the last several years about the shortage of accounting graduates etc. I know here in Oregon where all preparers are required to licensed that the number licensed preparers has dropped about 11 % in the last decade. It will get worse because baby boomers make up the largest generation of currently practicing CPAs, EAs and etc.

Why me? Now? Multi-state psychologist issue

If she was traveling for business reasons only then your answer would be fairly easy, but your post makes it sound like she is mixing business and personal travel. In which case the best result would be an allocation of expenses. -

Margaret, I must say that you have some of the most interesting client tax situations In your client's case I don't see a way to claim any business expense for the rent -
It makes everything a lot easier without last minute tax law changes

The Never Ending soap opera rolls on: By Ed Zollars, CPA on Jan 01, 2025 07:30 pm "The Department of Justice has filed an emergency request for the US Supreme Court to remove the injunction against enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act the Fifth Circuit had put back in place on December 26, 2024.[^1] The Department of Justice (DOJ) has made several arguments as to why the Supreme Court should stay the order barring enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), including the following:"

From time to time I have emailed pdf copies of checks to clients who were able to print them out with no problems.

Per IR 2024-314: "No action is needed for eligible taxpayers to receive these payments, which will go out automatically in December and should arrive in most cases by late January 2025. The payments will be automatically direct deposited or sent by paper check; eligible taxpayers will also receive a separate letter notifying them of the payment."

The current FinCen Alert reads: "In light of a recent federal court order, reporting companies are not currently required to file beneficial ownership information with FinCEN and are not subject to liability if they fail to do so while the order remains in force. However, reporting companies may continue to voluntarily submit beneficial ownership information reports."

Like last year, the due date for ALE Employers to provide Form 1095 C to their employees is March 3, 2025. Every year I have to prepare these for my largest business client, so I am really glad I can prepare these forms in February.
