  1. I submitted the return showing $250 payments for both him and his wife even though his wife does not receive SS disability benefits, and it was accepted by IRS. The only other senario is that his listed dependent son also receives SS disability benefits because of Dad, and that perhaps he received the $250. Any thoughts?
  2. I have a client who is on SS diasability because he is blind. His wife works and they qualify for the $800 joint economic recovery credit. I completed the Schedule M and indicated that he had received the $250 stimulus amount from SS (he also remembered receiving it). The efile was rejected because the "..payments received does not match IRS records." I then resent it showing 0 received for the stimulus amount, and it was rejected again for the same reason. Does anyone have any insight as to what is going on? Thanks. Neil
  3. I have been too busy to even acknowledge your Happy Birthday wishes, but I want to say "Thank You" to all. On my birthday, my wife's mother became extremely ill, and I just received word she passed a few minutes ago. She was 85 and precious to us all. This Board is great and very much appreciated. (By the way, you can call me Neil). Neil
  4. In return manager, Forms, Customize...,type "letter" under find. Open client letter and run wizard. When finished, save and close it out. Do the same for state letter. Now when you open your letters in the individual returns, they should open as you have saved them. There may be a few adjustments that you will need to make to the letter after you see it in action, so you just need to go back to the master and adjust accordingly. Hope that helps.
  5. Thanks. The original preparer had put a sticker on the copy with his name and address, but no ID Numbers.
  6. I am producing a return in which I am the ERO but not the Preparer. How can I remove my "Preparer" information which is automatically inserted in the Paid Preparer's Use Only Section? Thanks. Neil
  7. Yes, but how many of those are "Happy Birthday's"? Should those count? LOL
  8. I rarely see this Code used on a W-2. Code Y - Sec 409(a) deferred comp plan deferrals. ATX on its W-2 worksheet is wanting to reduce the Medicare Wages amount in Box 5 by the deferred comp amount, but the Company issuing the W-2 is not reducing it. Does anyone know which way is correct? Thanks. Neil
  9. I was able to use the Form 8606 Worksheet, part 3, to match the distribution amount with the basis and it zero'd out. Thanks.
  10. My client made a Roth IRA contribution at the beginning of 2007. In calcualting his tax return for 2007, it was discovered that he made an excess contribution amount of $1450 which he withdrew before the April 15th deadline in 2008. For 2008, he recieved a 1099-R for the amount withdrawn with codes J P. The box 1 Gross Distribution shows $1392, box 2 is blank. ATX is including this as taxable income with the 10% penalty. Could the $1392 amount be the gain that was made on the contribution, which would be nearly a 100% return for less than one year? The $1450 that was withdrawn should not be taxable since it was the excess withdrawn before the filing deadline. Am I missing something here? Thanks. Neil
  11. Happy birthday, Margaret!!!!! I see your 39 again today. What a country.
  12. The IRS is catching those returns of those who have Stimulus Money coming and are including that automatically in their refund. You may want to wait until your client has received his/her refund before you take any action. If your client did not automatically receive the stimulus, then yes, amend.
  13. Anyone from Rhode Island out there? or anyone know the answer to this?
  14. Client moved from Illinois to Rhode Island after graduating from college in June, 2008. She works only in Maine and has no income in Rhode Island. Her employer withholds only Maine state tax. I will complete a Maine nonresident return, but will she need to complete a Rhode Island return also if she does not have income in Rhode Island? Your help will be appreciated. Thanks. Neil
  15. In the 1099_R Worksheet, in 2a fill in the amount that was rolled-over (put back in). This should produce the correct calculations for you. Neil
  16. In this particular case, expenses for the employeewere paid separately. This amount was specifically rentfor the truck, and was listed as "Rent" on the 1099. The rent was for his using his truck to haul some of the supplies needed from the supply yard to the worksite. I certainly can see taking the milage expense deduction against the "Rental" Income, since the truck was specifically being used for that purpose. But, wasn't my client also required to be present at this job to drive the truck as well as to do the other required work? Thanks. Neil
  17. long time client, that I thought, (there I go thinking) had a few sharper tools in his belt. Shouldn't you be able to deduct those tools in his belt?
  18. Thanks, Julie. My thought process was that since he had to be there in order to receive the truck rent, then his living expenses should be considered. Also, I have calculated the expenses using the form 2106 but after all the deductions, he did not have enough expenses to itemize. (Single person, not enough other expenses to qualify). I was looking for other ways to deduct those expense items.
  19. Client worked at an out of area temporary worksite for 4 months in 2008. While there, the company paid him rent for the use of his truck as well as wages. He received a 1099 for the rent amount. Can he deduct any of his living expenses while at the worksite from this rent amount? Obviously, the client had to be at the site with the truck in order to receive the rent. Is this reasonable?
  20. Husband and wife are splitting a business they own and work together 50-50. Does ATX have a way to put all the expenses on a Schedule C and then split them 50-50 for the husband and wife? Thanks.
  21. Zeke - thanks. It was the info about the Filer's Info page that I needed.
  22. Is there a place to indicate on the 1040 form that the taxpapyer is a full time farmer with 100% income from farming, or does the IRS know that by the Schedule F he is filing? And if his return is filed by March 1, there is no penalty for not estimating, correct? Thanks in advance. Neil
  23. I have been so busy, I did not even get a chance to check the board on my birthday. Thank you all for your best wishes.
