  1. I have a client that just received a SS# for their baby that was born in November. The return keeps getting rejected because the SSN and Name Control field don't match the e-file data base. Checked with client and the name and # are exactly the same as it appears on the card. Tried to call e-file help desk, recording said to call back. Does anyone know the number the client needs to call find out if the data base has something different then on the SS card? Or is this because it is a new SS# and the IRS has a antique data base?
  2. I have some returns with a lot of depreciable items and I'm worried that the amounts did not calculate correctly in the years after the asset was placed in service. I notice this year that on Assets that I took a 179 deduction n, the dep. for the current year calculated correctly, but when I looked at the schedule of future dep. it calculated the dep. of the FULL amount, it did not account for the 179 deduction. I'm hoping it's just the schedule and that this didn't happen in previous years. I'm hoping this is not a TRX thing all over again.
  3. The daughter has power of attorney, so I guess she would do it on his behalf. I doubt the father would have any objections to helping his daughter, she is providing him with excellent care in her home, and from the way she talks about him she loves him very much.
  4. I have used the 1040 ES a few times and the numbers never seem right. I do it manually. The estimate based on the 2014 tax due is WRONG. I didn't bother trying to figure out why. I have more and more concerns all the time with this program and I am checking things I shouldn't have to. My fear is there are thing I did not pick up not only this year but the last two I've used the program. Next year 2012 returns will be looked at to meat the three year decline. I'm afraid clients will receive notices due to things the program messed up.
  5. I have a client how has a dependent parent with dementia. She pays the fathers medical bills with HIS funds. I told her if she paid the Medical she could deduct it. I also pointed out that her father can gift both her and her husband $14,000 each tax free each year and if she chose to use the $28,000 to pay for his medical bills the she could deduct $28,000 Should I have suggested that?

  7. Agee. I miss read the post. I though she want to make the contribution now. If she made it before April 15 2014 yes
  8. I believe it April 15th for the previous year only. So April 15th for 2014. There are no catch ups Page 11 pub 590 Contributions must be made by due date. Contributions can be made to your traditional IRA for a year at any time during the year or by the due date for filing your return for that year, not including extensions. For most people, this means that contributions for 2014 must be made by April 15, 2015, and contributions for 2015 must be made by April 15, 2016
  9. So I took Sec. 179 on two grouped items for the total cost of $6,665. When I click on assets the info for the current year is correct, current Sec 179 $6,665 Current Depreciation $0 The when I look at " Depreciation for future years" It show depreciation for the two items I totally Sec. 179 For the 27,000 Van I took $9,000 Sec 179 and $6,300 dep. The Future Dep. for the Van shows 7,020, 4,212, 2,972.70, 2,972.70, 372.60 Total = $17,529.5 + Sec. 179 of $9,000 and current dep. 6,300 = $32,289.5 It appears it is dep. the full value on all the items and not taking into account the 179 deduction
  10. Time for a computer share. No matter how I enter the information, when I click on assets and total the dep. and sec 179 that it shows for the 5 year life comes to either more then the $27,000 or less then the $27000
  11. My head is spinning a little on the limits for deprecation on Vans. I read this Maximum Depreciation Deduction for Passenger Automobiles Year 1 $11,160 "If you elected not to claim any special depreciation allowance or the vehicle is not qualified property, the maximum deduction is $3,460" "The maximum depreciation deductions for trucks and vans placed in service after 2002 are higher than those for other passenger automobiles." Year 1 $11,460 "If you elected not to claim any special depreciation allowance or the vehicle is not qualified property, the maximum deduction is $3,460" The van weights over 6,000 lbs. (11,500 lbs.) "..vehicles rated at more than the 6,000 pounds threshold are not passenger automobiles, they are still “other property used for transportation” and are subject to the special rules for listed property" "..You cannot elect to expense more than $25,000 ... that is rated at more than 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight and not more than 14,000 pounds gross vehicle weight." So for a 11,500 pound Cargo Van that cost $27,500 and is used 100% for business, I should be able to take a total of a $25,000 in depression. Correct? If so how do I show that deduction. Do I use regular depreciation and sec.179 the rest? Thanks
  12. More info. This is a Cargo Van that's in Not likely to be used for personal use. If I'm understanding what I'm reading if it's over 6,000 lbs. like a Hummer there is no limit. So if the van is under 6,000 lb it is limited. Most work van are under 6,000 and you would not want to use it for personal use, But a nice hummer is not limited . How can up with that???
  13. I'm having a problem with the form 4562 (depreciation) input screen or I'm confused on sec. 179 deductions. TP purchased a Van for his business $27,000. First year Dep. is $3,460 and I wanted to take a Sec. 179 for $7,000. No mater what I do I cannot get any sec. 179 deduction. Can I not take a sec.179 deduction on a Van? OR I'm I not understanding how to use the input screen? Thanks
  14. I can't figure out how to delete a client.
  15. I deleted the NY return and left it at that.
  16. I get that one all the time also
  17. I get that one all the time.
  18. Finally went through. Usually only takes a minute or two.
  19. No return call yet. I actually redid the return by making up a new client and changing the ss of the original . Simple return two w-2's, a SS and a few mutual fund transactions. This return is stuck in the queue also.
  20. I have a return that was in the queue for a hour, so I removed it and retransmitted the return, it spent another hour in the queue, so I removed it again. The I tried to transmit just the fed, it spent 30 minutes in the queue and I removed it. Any ideas of what could be wrong? I left a voice mail for Tech. support.
  21. oops, I didn't see "prior" . NJ-Non-resident. You may have to allocate the income to be sure nothing is taxed in NJ.
