  5. I love it when people cry the rich don't pay enough and when I ask how much they think they should pay they haven't a clue or come up with a % lower then they currently pay.
  6. Last year I did a return and the total tax was around $100,000 right after that return I did one for a guy that paid $0 and still got a $5,557 refund. I wanted to scream
  7. does anyone else think it is just NUTS that the regs. old and new have us scratching our heads over how to treat a toilet. And having to depreciate it over 27.5 years make me laugh out loud.
  8. There was a really great article in Forbes today and it was put in a q/a conversation between the author a tax preparer that was funny also. http://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonynitti/2015/02/14/repair-regulation-relief-what-does-it-really-mean-not-as-much-as-you-think/
  9. I think regs are often created with multi million dollar companies in mind or real estate developer like Trump and no provision is made for the small guy. How much of a difference in tax is there going to be if the entire boiler is expensed rather then split up; probably not much. But if we were talking about a company that owns numerous apartment buildings with hundreds or thousands of tenants this type of detail can result in huge tax differences. my point if it comes down to 50 to 100 buck difference I'm not spending hours on it
  10. They are also still married also
  11. It gets a bit confusing when you read pub. 971 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p971.pdf It seems to indicate that she would have to not been afar the tax wasn't paid or that she thought the spouse paid the tax. They give an example Example. You and your spouse filed a joint 2011 re-turn. That return showed you owed $10,000. You had $5,000 of your own money and you took out a loan to pay the other $5,000. You gave two checks for $5,000 each to your spouse to pay the $10,000 liability. Without telling you, your spouse took the $5,000 loan and spent it on himself. You and your spouse were divorced in 2012. In addition, you had no knowledge or reason to know at the time you signed the return that the tax would not be paid. These facts indicate to the IRS that it may be unfair to hold you liable for the $5,000 unpaid tax. The IRS will consider these facts, together with all of the other facts and circum-stances, to determine whether to grant you equitable relief from the $5,000 unpaid tax
  12. They are not worth any trouble at all
  13. I did see old instructions I just don't remember where.
  14. So we just file a return like always, nothing else? AM I DREAMING!
  15. I was thinking of teller her I'll fill out the form but wont sign it
  16. Yep, in some peoples mind anything they hear from a IRS employee must be true. In highlighted the parts in the publication she gave me that shows why she does not qualify, if that's not enough for her I'll file it.
  17. Thank you for sharing this I have hope now that I will survive this tax season
  18. So if everything is still classified correctly and I'll have a $0 841 adjustment then under Type of Accounting Method Change Requested I would select "Other" then type something like. "I'm satisfying the new and STUPID Tangible Property/Repair Regs" Or should I say something else
