  1. I do not have the answers. I was just scanning the board to see about the signature form issue myself. In reading the instructions for the 4419 it doesn't appear that we should need to have that form signed. However, in years past I thought I had read that the form should be signed. So I have the same question about getting a signature from the client. Hopefully someone will answer. Nena
  2. Maybe you have a space entered inadvertantly in the form somewhere or something else. I would try printing the form in question, deleting it, then reentering the data on the form. See if it goes through then. I know I have had to do that in past years occasionally. Hopefully it is not a form with too much data. Nena
  3. If the efile return was rejected and never went through then there is no need to file a 1040X. Only file a 1040X if you have an accepted return that needs to be changed. If the return was rejected I would correct the return to add the additional information then e-file the return again. I usually wait for the first return to be processed all the way through before I would file a 1040X. Again in this case by what you wrote it doesn't appear that a 1040X is appropriate. Nena

Thanks for you input. My reading says they can file with their own information if the other spouse doesn't responded by the due date or by extension. Is your understanding that you have to wait until the extension date? Or till the just before the deadline? Thanks, Nena

I have three separate sets of clients getting a divorce this year. There is little or no cooperation between the parties. In each case I am retaining one of the party as clients (not both). All three of these sets of clients separated in July and are getting divorced (were living separate for less that 6 months of the year). I understood that in CA a community property state that they have to split their income in half and each claim half of the total. What do you do when the other spouse will not cooperate and will not provide their W2 information. Are you aware of any special rules for a situation like this? Nena
  6. I think this is great something I think the program should always have done. The same with the taxable state refund amount I think that started rolling over last year. We can always take it out but sometimes it hard to remember to put it in. Nena
  7. It is important to remember Sch S because it is a form that ATX does not automatically pull up. I think it should pull the form up automatically but it doesn't. Nena
  8. Mine are now saying accepted as well. My copy is still saying validated. I hope it eventually sorts itself out. Nena
  9. This explains why the advanced tech I was speaking with didn't know there was a difference between an efile to the IRS or the state. Very freindly and seemed computer literate. But not software specific or industry specific literate. Nena
  10. Sorry I didn't check back in with you all since Saturday. When I checked the CA website status was unknown. The original return today says "rejected by EFC" the copy says "validated by EFC". My client says she checked the website just using her social and it says approved. I checked today and it was approved. But one now says "rejected" and one says "validated. I do not know what to tell you except that mine went through it was the original not the copy because I didn't submit the copy until Saturday and it was accepted on Friday according to FTB. Seems my tech support rep should have been able to determine that. However, she looked and said that it did not go through? This is a mess and the tech support and customer service people at ATX just do not seem to have a clue about what specifically is going on. They should be sending us emails as they have in the past or post something on MYATX. At this point I am unsure what the point of MyATX is. So far I have found no information to fix any of my problems there.
  11. My CA E-files were still pending "validated EFC". When I called tech support today they said my returns needed to be copied and the e-files resent to CA and that they should go through. Have your CA E-files been accepted? Please update. Nena
  12. Thanks for the information on how to check this on the CA site. No luck with mine it said status "unknown". So mine are not flowing. Nena
  13. Dev, I now have it. After I shared the 2006 folder it somehow disconected itself from the 2007 program on the server. So I browsed under rollover on the server and reconnected it. I also browsed and reconnected it on my workstation. And it is up and running. Thank you for all your help. As a side note. When I update the forms on the main system do they automatically update on the workstations or do I also need to update the workstations to get the program updates and forms? Nena
  14. Deb, Thank you for your help it is really appreciated. I tried to follow your steps but ran into a couple of questions/problems. I am running XP Home so this may make the options available to me different. I do not have an option for permissions. I just have a second option under sharing that says allow users to change files. I clicked that. I ran netsetup on the workstation and the ATX 2006 seems to be up and running and networked but my 2007 program is still not pulling the the database when I click browse and select it. However the data is populating the networked 2006 program. Any other suggestions? Nena

I'm still waiting as well. Nena
  16. I tried that it didn't populate the rollover returns onto the networked computers only on the main system. The only thing I can think of is that that information (2006 ATX) is not set up to be shared or networked so it is not allowing me to access that data on the additional networked systems?
  17. I have the answer on the state letter saying included are two copies, mail one etc instead of e-filed. I customized master forms for the state letter, ran the wizard and saved the changes. I had combine Fed and State checked and now it works fine in one combined letter. I haven't fixed the federal part yet. The text does not display on my screen in the customized letter once I check the box in the wizard that says "Check if this return will be e-filed". So I can't edit it. When I open the letter in a return the following line appears in the text twice, "I have prepared your 2007 federal income tax return based on the information you provided." When I open the wizard for the letter there are two boxes checked both "Check if this return has been e-filed " and "Check if this return will be e-filed". I did not check both of these boxes in the customized letter. I went back and checked just to be sure. The software seems to be adding the second check and duplicating the line of text. If anyone knows what is wrong here or how to fix it please let me know.
  18. Thank you, Thank you. I set up preferences but missed that. Nena
  19. To override in every return for 160 returns is just one more irritating problem. Just like I can't get my client letter to work correctly, CA e-files are not going through and my program is not networked yet. I wanted this all set up this week and I feel like I am just spinning my wheels. Thanks for the override suggestion it will work short term. I was hoping for a fix though so if anyone knows what it is please let me know. I really don't want to call tech support again. Nena
  20. How do I customize the client mail slip? I read the earlier posts Forms> customize master forms> opened the Form. There are just blank lines on the form. Returns do not do anything. I have 200 report covers left that I previously ordered from ATX. I never dreamed that they wouldn't work with the program in this year. I know some of you have already done this please help. Also will this customized master form populate in a rolled over return or do I have to delete the form and reopen the form in the return? Nena
  21. I think my problem is that last years program is not networked and thus is not on a shared drive. So when I select last years file using browse it doesn't access last years data on the networked computers. So I am working on networking last years program as well and hopefully that will take care of the problem. I found the link for browse in the toolbar of the rollover screen. I will post when I get this worked out.
  22. I prepare one Sch H. They have there own EIN. I know that in one of my update classes this year they said in the case of a SCH C you could use the same EIN for household employees. I would have to go back and review the exact details of that. However, I would think that there is no way that you could pay personal expenses from a corporation. If you are using an S Corp EIN it seems as if you would be mixing the business with the personal expenses. So my opinion is use a separate number. However, this is my opinion only.
  23. Please post what you find out. I do not see the browse option mentioned above. Can you give me more information on how to locate that option. Nena
  24. I have the software networked for 2007 only. I had numerous problems networking the 2006 version last year so it is not set up. The 2007 works fine for a return that has already been rolled over on the main system and all the forms were available when it was originally rolled over. But if any of the forms were not available then I get an error message that th return was not rolled over and the data was deleted and needs to be restored. Does anyone know how I can get the software to find the 2006 data? Does it need the 2006 version to be networked to find the data? Last year when it was networked I do not recall having this problem. When it was working it worked very well. I beleive that my tech guy set it up as a mapped drive on my peer-to-peer network. I am afraid to call tech support after my call in the other day. I really talked to someone who did not have a clue. He thanked me for using Tax Wise at the end of the call. Nena
  25. My efiles haven't gone through either. I was glad to look here and see that I was not alone. Last year didn't we receive emails when each state was excepting e-files? Anyway, I am ok so far since most of my clients do not have their tax documents yet. But any day the phone will start really ringing and it would be nice to be able to e-file or at least have an idea as to when we might be able to transmit. Nena
