An ATX representative just told me that I need to paper file because the software won't accept a foreign address on the Form 1098-T input screen.
Robert 1:14:15 p.m. ATX does not recognize the address.
Miguel 1:16:00 p.m. Our system will not be able to accept the foreign address
Robert 1:16:42 p.m. So do I need to file a paper tax return?
Miguel 1:17:22 p.m. Yes due to the issue, the return will need to be paper file
My first thought is that deducting the forgiven payback amount is like double dipping, but then so is deducting proceeds of a tax-free PPP loan used for business expenses.
I have a handful of clients with crypto and they all are younger than age 35. I've informed them to complete my blank gain/loss worksheet to record the activity.
I informed all clients in my pre-Tax-Season letter that it is advisable to obtain an IP PIN. I included a Yes and No check box for them to indicate whether they did so or not. Approximately 20% obtained an IP PIN, 10% tried but were unsuccessful (some of whom couldn't pass IRS's confirmation-of-identity test), and the remaining 70% didn't pursue it at all.
I'm surprised to read that a PIN for 2021 has already been received because it's usually not issued until the end of the year.
Yes! I also mined a list of charity donee names, addresses, etc. from previous tax returns that I keep in an Excel spreadsheet window screen (along with college name, addresses, etc. and other data) that can be instantly copied into ATX).
I've been doing the same: "X" the error window, save the tax return, close ATX, restart ATX. Clicking OK on the error window prevented ATX from restarting until I rebooted my computer.
I entered my client's 6-digit IP PIN in ATX. The first digit is a zero: 0xxxxx. But the E-filing is being Rejected by Agency (Reject Code X0000-005) because they say the IP PIN has only 5 digits (xxxxx) instead of 6 digits (0xxxxx). It's as if the first digit zero isn't being seen or is being dropped (sorta like when Excel drops the leading zero if such a number is entered into a cell). The ATX virtual assistant suggested putting a single quote mark before the IP PIN but that resulted in ATX preventing the E-file from even being created. Anybody here with a similar experience?
