  1. You tell them they exchanged paying taxes with worthless inflated money in the future with real dollars today. If they had that much extra cash laying around they should have exchanged the paper for hard goods instead of more paper. Phil
  2. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any resources for someone to learn how to prepare Estate tax returns. Novice at estate taxes but have been doing 1040's for 11+ years. Phil

The code w means employer paid so they shouldn't get a deduction. Don't ennter it on the worksheet. It supposed to show in box 9 on the first page. Couldn't get it to show there. But no deduction. Hope that helps. If im wrong someone enlighten us. Phil
  4. Anyone currently using myrealdata.com to host thier ATX software. We have been using an inhouse Citrix server for several years but its hard to maintain and occassionaly fails at the worst time. Seems reasonable just wonder if there are any first hand users. Thanks Phil
  5. Box labeled sch A awaiting efile. Put something in the box with their name on it. Have one for awaiting signed 8879, one for missing information and one for eiled returns. phil
  6. That worked putting the information there instead of where we used to put it.
  7. No just on the filers info tab on the 1040
  8. I checked the box to carry the prior years direct deposit information. When i get ready to efile it deletes the information from page 2 of the tax return and doesn't let me enter it. New to efile but this doesn't sound normal. I have created and efiled other returns this year without problem First one with direct deposit. Thanks
  9. Very slick, I will try this as well. Most of my clients are over 60. So I'll see how many are computer savy. Phil

  12. I do around 1200 1040 tax returns, have done returns for 10+ years. This will be the first tax season we will efile. How steep is the learning curve and what if anything should we watch out for? Thanks Phil
  13. As regrettable as the error is remind the taxpayer that right under their signature on the 1040 is a statement that they reviewed their tax return prior to filing. She had use of the money for the year so the tax and interest are her responsibility. If you feel obligated to pay the penalty if not abated then thats your choice. Phil
  14. Taxpayers owned a home for twenty plus years then in 7/1/08 bought a new home. Sold the new home in 9/1/09. Bought a new home and will close on 12/11/09. So 1st home: 1/1/70 to 7/1/08 owned a home sold it and bought home 2. 2nd home: 7/1/08 to 9/1/09 owed a home sold it and bought home 3 3rd home: will be purchased on 12/11/09 Does home 3 qualify for 6500 credit. I say no since home 2 was the principle residence and it was not owned 5 out of the last eight years. Any thoughts on the subject. Thanks
  15. How do you get the birth date to export from the program?
  16. I would like to know if TRX will be able to offer this deal next year? I called TRX to find out and was told the person who could answer that wasnn't available. I don't see why CCH would allow it anyway. Get the same software at much lower price. How does that make any sense. Well I'll enjoy my savingns this year. I see they are still selling taxwise for less money. So I'll wait and see. The lesson is renew early. Phil
  17. I called the number from the Web Site and got fifth third bank. The person at fifth third did not have any understanding of the deal with atx. I decided to send the fax form that opens from the atx website since the person didn't really know the deal. The same person i spoke called back and said your fax was routed to me. Does anyone use this service and if so please share you oponion.

Just got off the phone with them. TRX must have lost the ability to offer the software. We will be back to higher prices next year. Glad I got a one year savings.

Owner allows someone unrelated to work the land in exchange for property tax payment. No deprication ever taken on farm. Sale Price 2,750,000 May of 2009 Purhcae Price 60,000.00 30 years ago Improvements of 100,000.00 2008 AGI of 12,000.00 Given this information would the marrid taxpayer qualify for the $500,000.00 gain exclusion for sale of principal residence and at what rate is the 2009 capital gains tax caculated? Based on income it looks like in 2008 he would have qualified for less than 20%. If you need more info let me know. Thanks Philip

  21. I mention support several times since I thought it was important. Thanks for letting me know its not. My practice is focused on Seniors 60+ so I don't keep up on the dependent rules since it doesn't come up much.
  22. Uncle had 5 year old great nephew in his care from 1/1/2007 to 12/10/2007. Uncle recieved no support from childs mother or father for the entire year. Childs mother plans to claim child on her tax return. Mother and father signed an agreeemnt at the begining of 2007 stating Uncle was entitled to claim the child. If she files first how do you challenge her filing since the uncle had the child for 11+ months and paid all cost to support the child. Thanks Phil
