    Sch A MFJ v MFS

Here in Ohio, I often find MFS saves the clients a lot of tax money. Over the course of many years I've had a few (though not many) IRS CP-2000 letters requesting documentation of, most often, the mgt interest. I'm just trying to alleviate wasting time with the IRS. Thanks for your input. Terry
  2. Is there a better way to report (to the IRS, to prevent CP-2000 audits) the splitting of Itemized Deductions on a couples Sch A ?

    I blew an E-F

MFS saves them $ 2,256 because of Ohio's stupid tax laws. They are married and like each other and are good clients. I will tell them the facts: 1. I'm having major trouble seeing; 2. I'm using a new tax software program-Drake; and I really didn't look as closely as I should have when I E-F'd.; I'm 66; been doing this since I was 21 and my body is falling apart. It's getting to the point where I need to be put out to pasture. Terry

    I blew an E-F

I inadvertently E-F'd a MFJ return and should have E-F MFS returns. Now I need to amend before 4/15/14 to MFS. Any suggestions please. I know I need better glasses. Terry
  6. How do you get the preparer's signature to print on pg 2 of the Ohio return?
  7. Thank you jklcpa. You're better then their support!! Terry
  8. Where/how do you get the Drake software program to print the preparer's name on 1040 pg 2 "Preparer;'s signature" ?
  9. TAG, how many W-2s are you doing? If it's a very small number, just address a plain #10 business envelope and make sure that the face of the envelope also contains the words "IMPORTANT TAX RETURN DOCUMENT ENCLOSED" in bold and in a large font. That's what we've had to do. But I'd like to find windowed envelopes that would work because using the SSA site to E file W-2s for my payroll clients is a nice set-up and right now I to take new clients that have payroll because of W-2s. Thanks jklcpa.
  10. Thank you all, especially KC The problem is: The format that the SSA is using for employee copies has never been used as a standard W-2 before ie, 2-up, 4 side by side, etc. Why redesign the wheel-because it's the government!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Terry
  11. I'm using the SSA site to file employers' W-2s & W-3 and printing out employees' copies of their W-2s. Has anyone found a windowed envelope I can get to mail out these employee copies of their W-2s? Thanks.
  12. Thankyou. I've updates my state: OHIO.

  20. Joan, I sent the 1040X to both. What's the AUR unit? And thanks for the response.
  21. New client came to me with an IRS CP2000 notice for TY 2011 in May 2013. The problem: On his Sch F his previous tax preparer reported taxpayer's grain sales on line 2. Now however, farm co-ops are putting sales through them (which these were) in box 3 "per-unit retain allocations" of the 1099PATRs-so the IRS thinks he is under reporting his income by $ 45,800. His guy is as honest as they come. With the increase in tax, "substantial tax underpayment penalty", interest he owes $ 21,000. In May, when he first came in, I re-did his Sch F blanking-out the amounts on line 2 and increasing his 1099PATR on line 3a. I amended his return with a very good (I thought) explaination as to what had gone wrong. Today he receives another IRS notice and they are still locked in on the original problem-not the mistake. Normally, I know it can be a PITA dealing with the IRS but it seems to me that they have gotten really, really horrible. What suggustions can you offer me. Thanks in advance. Terry
  22. I've never prepared a 1120-H. I've printed the IRS instructions (haven't read them yet). Are there any short courses, booklets that could help me? I need a confidence builder. Thanks, TAG
