  1. First time it’s on the Div.
  2. Sweet! I have one on extension that has an 8915.
  3. Wow, I can’t believe your mom is 99!
  4. I checked my last few e-files, and have been reading the news. A person has gone missing around here, so that’s weird. jklcpa, congrats!!!
  5. I have had more problems with the letters this year than ever before. If I check they are paying over the internet, the letter says they are paying by installment agreement. Payment or refund amounts don’t show. I would just check the mail payments.
  6. The “I don’t really care” is strong with this one. 2/3 of my clients are CA and get automatic extensions. 3 more live abroad. The rest? I guess I’ve got to get to work finishing…
  7. The ERC credit just made the IRS Dirty Dozen tax scams.
  8. I haven't been having the 'blip' closings (well not very often) but had one yesterday. decided it was time to call it a day!
  9. You don't need to file MFS, you can use the 540NR and claim one as resident and one as nonresident.
  10. I need to get dates & all established, but my client moved from CA to CO sometime in 2022. She actually spent time in CO in 2021 but most of her time was spent in San Diego so I filed CA resident. Anyways, she sued a prior employer in Nov. 2021 and got a settlement in Aug. 2022. 40k paid on W2, 360k to her (and her attorneys). I need to verify but the suit was something to do with violation of the labor code and retaliation. I believe it is covered by the discrimination statutes. But which state taxes it, CA or CO? Or both? She lived in CO, but the wage income is for when she lived in CA. I believe both states will tax because she lived in CO but got CA source income. Thoughts?
  11. You don't want to use that trick if the total of the donations is over $5000. Just sayin'.
  12. Dennis, I know what you are saying. But this is where I am. The last copy of QB I bought was 2019. I think I bought it at the end of 2018. Installed it on my computer. It's a desktop model, and I don't need to run the latest models anything. I'll keep it for years. Then I bought a new computer. I could not get QB to migrate to the new computer. So I have 2 computers sitting side by side on my desk; the old one for QB, the new one for everything else. Except this year, I couldn't get QB to import any data at all. Kept saying I had to 'upgrade' to their new version which is a subscription model. F*#k that. I need to access QB to do my one 990, so they gave me one of their licenses. They get 5 and usually use one. Now I'm good for this year at least. I always hated that QB made one have to update every few years because even the accountant version only looked back a couple of years. Now they want you to update every year or go to QB online. I don't want QB online. Every other program I have (like Office) I buy when I get a new computer or transfer from the old computer to the new. I'm ranting now so I'll quit.
  13. I'm with you Catherine. My data is my data. But QB is getting squirellier & squirellier. (I think that's a word!). I am now using a client's extra user for their stuff and my own.

    RDP Return

Yes. And only one CA return unless they want to file MFS for Ca.
  15. I amended my 2021 return in December and got the refund already..
  16. I'm preparing estimates for an NYC client. From 1099s they've had plenty of NY state tax withheld, so much that it covers both the state & city taxes with a $6k refund. When doing the estimates, they only will owe NYC tax. Can I apply the $6k overpayment towards the city tax due or do I need to have strictly city tax payments made? In other words, do I apply the $6k refund to 2023 city taxes leaving a $1710 estimate due or do I have the $6k refunded and have them pay $8010 in estimates?
  17. I’m having Apple streusel. Thank you for the reminder, I may have forgotten…
  18. And the taxpayer is taxed as though the $45k is taxed. So if your client has 45k in wages (excluded), and $100k of other Taxable income, the 100k is taxed as though taxable income is $145k. The way the foreign income exclusion works changed under Bush. Expats aren’t a big lobbying force.
  19. What they have in the Admin Console storage locations? It's under File Settings. Mine have been wiped out and Support is closed. I can't lose a day and ATX won't launch without the proper stuff in the Admin Console.
  20. I just want to make sure I'm getting the new rules correct. Have married couple, the IRA account holder died and spouse inherited it. Spouse does NOT have to follow the 10-year rule and can take RMDs out based on his life expectancy. Or he can roll it to his own IRA and take out according to the IRA rules, once he turns 73.
  21. I’ve read any older children (not an infant) are special needs.
