  1. I have a client whose 9 yr old daughter received a structured settlement from a car accident. One of the items of the settlement included an amount given to her father, my client, for allocated loss wages and medicals costs during her stay in the hospital. He did not receive a 1099. After researching this income-I believe it is not taxable. So my question is: Do I disclose this information on his return by filing a 8275

or do we try to sort out wages from medical and report wages as other income?

  2. I tried to copy the disbursement screen but am not that smart. If you are in Bank Manager and look at disbursements there is a tab for "Details" Popup shows the payments and where the money went. "Bank Account Fee" $15.00 Next line is Bank technology fee $11.00. They are corrct, there is no "Transmitter Fee" just $26.00 of other fees. I will call on Monday and see if I can get clarification but I do not anticipate much.

  3. first Two fee collects disbursed today.Although not discolosed in any of the disclosures, CCH charged the $11.00 Tech access fee and the bank account fee of $15.00 we were told about. Net cost to Taxpayer $26.00. I am having to refund the $11.00 as not disclosed. 4 more in process then no more. $26.00 is killer for convenience.

  5. I have a question about this new Schedule(M) for the upcoming tax year. Items 10 and 11 on that form are Yes & No questions. #10 asks about receiving $250 through SS and #11 about receiving a pension from a Federal or local govt that was not subject to Social Security. Asking clients a "Did you receive...." type question gets all types of responses. I didn't see anything on the SS input screen that addresses it. Are we to assume that if they received SS that the $250 was included? How about if SS only began in the last 2 or 3 months of the year? With question #11 ...will most people know that response? Thanks.

i just received my SSA-1099 and the $250.00 is not included or referenced on it. I did receive the 250.00 in May but can find no place either at Social Security or the IRS websites to confirm that. I doubt that folks that started receiving benefits after May or June received it. Do not kno that but experience says.,

  6. The POA fax # is 801-620-4249.

This is an IRS dedicated fax for POAs. It takes about 1-2 days to process..

    Thanks

I always use this number unless on phone with practioners hotline then I send it wherever they tell me.

  7. ATX told me that only 2008 and 2009 would run on windows 7. My IT guy said that anything that ran with Vista SHOULD work with W7. I am waiting because changing from Current XP Pro requires clean install and i would have to reload ALL my programs including 10 or 11 years of ATX and multiple other programs that I use on a daily basis. laplink says that they cannot support me yet. I really would like to change but am afeared. Running network with dedicated server and 3 workstations.

    Just my comments, no advice.

  8. I have not tried it for a coouple of years. Like you said I create PDF then duplex print. But I did get ATX to print duplex but it screwed all the forms up/ Lschedule C on back of A etc. Does not recognize forms as individual items. Just a big package.

  9. I used HSBC for the last five years, but they no longer offer RAL/RAC products for us little guys.

So I signed up with Chase. The maine reason I'm signing with them this year is that here in SouthEastern

Michigan there is a Chase Bank on every corner. Chase says they will cash RAL/RAC checks at no charge

as long as they have proper I.D....

I know with my former bank (not located in Michigan); some clients had to go to Walmart's or Sears to get them

cashed if they didn't have an account. The fees varied from year to year.... I'll let you know if Chase works out

    better.

    Taxtrio

Although I do not do a lot of bank products ( I discourage them as much as Possible) I charge a $25.00 Doc prep fee because of the additonal time it takes to sign and explain the contracts and what ifs of a RAL not being approved. i think I did 4 out of 600 returns last year. I also went with Chase because of the number of Branches locally although they do not pay anything to the preparer for the service. I do like the reduced fees they charge the client. A lot cheaper than HSBC.

  10. thanks for the feedback. Got on with ATX support. took almost 2 hours before Customer service gave up, then tech support took over. The file had downloaded wrong and would not update to the 2008. Deleted all the downloads from one of those mysterious folders in ATX and redownloaded the Organizer Works great now.
