  1. Just for fun(???) I'll try a couple of these fixes. Thanks, Taxbilly Booger PS Should've called you last night....would've gotten to bed alot earlier.
  2. Thanks, Catherine. This problem was REALLY WEIRD. I could access the internet, access various websites (Amazon, etc), but it would not open hotmail. Booger XXOO
  3. Thanks again, Lion. Last night was interesting. Spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone with a Dell support guy located in India (told me the weather has been very nice there). From 8 until 11:30 (YAWN!!). He still couldn't figure it out. What I ended up doing is setting up a new e mail account with my DSL provider. I just finished sending a blanket e mail to all my contacts notifying them of this change. Tired and Frustrated Booger
  4. No, I haven't tried opening another type of e-mail. Will try tonight when I get home. If I can, then I'll try to open Hotmail from the tab. Thanks, KC. Booger
  5. Thanks for your response, Lion. Don't think I can uninstall/reinstall, since Hotmail is accessible directly on MSN's browser. I'll call Dell (my computer maker).....since it WAS accessible about 3 weeks ago, I'm thinking that there is a setting on the PC that either needs to be turned on or off. Booger
  6. Good morning everybody. Although this is NOT a tax question, I have confidence that the computer-savvy users on this board could help me. This problem just cropped up about 3 weeks ago. I am able to get on the internet, but when I try to access Hotmail, nothing happens. However, on my PC at the office, I have no problem accessing Hotmail. I tried disabling my security software, but still no Hotmail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Booger

    New client

For what it's worth, I had an IRS agent tell me that they look EXTREMELY HARD at an individual who claims that he/she is a RE Professional when they have a full-time job in some other field.
  8. Thanks, Margaret. Booger
  9. Good morning everybody! Is there a way to "import" a set of tax returns directly from the ATX program into the client folder created by Paperport? Thanks in advance for your responses. Booger
  10. Sorry for the post. Found the answer on page 6 of the 1120-S instructions.
  11. SUCCESS!! Putting the computer in "Safe Mode" before loading the old programs worked. If anybody needs the details on how to do this, please e-mail me at [email protected] FINAL SCORE: Human 1 Computer 0 Booger
  12. Thank You, Catherine. XXOO Booger
  13. Talked to Chris at ATX Tech Support this AM. He told me to put the PC in "Safe Mode", load up the prior year's programs, then take the PC out of "Safe Mode." Will try this tonight, and report back tomorrow.
  14. Taxbilly, I'd like to offer my condolences as well.
  15. Can I "re-hijack" this thread for a moment? When I tried to re-install the programs for 2005-2008, the CD would start the installation process, but wouldn't install the program(s). I called ATX tech support, who told me the following: 1. Right-click the time at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen; 2. Click on Task Manager; 3. Click the "Processes" Tab; 4. Find APP.EXE, right-click on it; and 5. Click "End Process" The CD's would get to around 15% of the installation, then the following message pops up: Run-time Error "429" ActiveX component can't create object Going to the knowledge database under MyATX hasn't helped me at all. Any suggestions?
  16. Randall, I'm not that computer literate, but I ASSUMED that instead of saying Microsoft Windows XP on boot-up, the intro screen would say something like Microsoft Windows Vista. Any Vista users out there that would confirm this?
  17. Randall, the PC has Vista, but when booted up, it shows Microsoft Windows XP. So I ASSUME that the OS is XP.
  18. Thanks for your responses. I'll give it a try.
  19. Morning, everybody. Purchased a new computer, and am trying to access the ATX programs/files that are stored on external drives. I click the Start, Run, Browse, and access the external drives. Then, when I double click the ATX Icon, I get the following message: Run-time Error '429' ActiveX component can't create object Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? I have ATX program/files back to 1999 that are stored on the external drives that I would like to put Icons for on the desktop. Thanks in advance. Booger
  20. Thank you so much, Deb. I'll try to return the favor. Booger
  21. Received a rejection error stating that one of the three dependents SSN's listed on the 1040 has already been used by someone else. I believe that there was an earlier post that explained how to interpret which one has already been used. The "code" I received was the following: 1040FD507 Form RET1040 Occurrence:1 Seq:195 Can anyone offer assistance? Thanks
  22. Thanks to all who responded. Will keep you posted on what happens.
  23. Thanks for your input, rfassett. Will be as diplomatic and sensitive as possible with the widow.
  24. Catherine, sending flowers is a good idea! Another reason why I LOVE you. Maybe give her a week or so after the funeral to approach her? (GOD, I kinda feel like a circling vulture waiting to pick the bones)
  25. Just found out that a local CPA passed away. I know that his client base was somewhere around 350-500. This would just be tax prep work. I know that I'll pick up a portion of his client base by referral; however, I would really like to capture a big %age of this base. Should I approach the widow (after a period of time passes) and offer my services to any of the clients that are on extension? I DO NOT WANT to purchase his practice; call me cheap, but if I can acquire the clients FREE, that is what I want to do. Don't know if any other CPA/EA has offered to purchase his practice as yet. I rather doubt it, since his death was fairly recent. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
