  1. JohnH, that's my plan for next (2010) tax season. Being the cheapskate that I am, I want to postpone purchasing another monitor until late 2010. Booger
  2. Morning, everyone. I know that there has been alot of discussion regarding the use of dual monitors. However, I would like to see if I can get by this tax season with just one, but split it into 2 displays at once. I already did a search of the old posts regarding dual/split monitors, but I could not find HOW to actually split the monitor screen into 2, and have one side showing the 2008 returns, while I'm working on the 2009 returns on the other side. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Booger
  3. The way I read KC's attachment is that you CAN truncate the first five digits, but you DON'T have to. Booger
  4. Hello, everybody. A client called me and said that an IRS Agent was trying to contact them. When the client finally got the agent on the phone, the agent said that the IRS will be auditing their 2007 1040, and that the letter outlining what they'll be examining was mailed to the client last Friday (client has yet to receive the letter). I have never heard of an IRS Agent calling a taxpayer to give them a "heads-up" on an upcoming audit. Just checking with you to see if this is a new way for the IRS to contact taxpayers. Seems a little odd to me. Usually the audit letter is the first contact that the IRS has with a taxpayer selected for an examination. Booger
  5. Robin, have you tried to install under "Safe Mode"? This is what I did and it worked fine. Booger

  8. Margaret, when you look at your posts time (and it's an hour earlier), do you hear the Twilight Zone theme? Booger
  9. Jainen, I got a written release from both before I submitted the husband's returns to the wife, and vice-versa. The couple couldn't even agree on what address to use on the returns. hers or his. I recommended that one of the attorneys office address be used, since joint returns were filed and a joint refund check was coming. Booger
  10. Lion's example is a good one. A married couple client of mine went through a nasty divorce this year, and I've already made up my mind about dropping one and keeping the other as a client. Had to prepare the 2008 returns under different scenarios (Joint vs Separate, husband claiming 1,2, or 3 kids versus wife claiming none, etc.) then submit all of the various filing schemes to both attorneys. I was accused of violating confidentiality by one of the spouses, which I didn't. The 2008 returns were filed on October 15th. Glad to have that one completed. Booger
  11. Good One, John. Will advise client to make one deposit. Booger
  12. My client is planning on doing a "catch-up" deposit for the 3rd Qtr Federal payroll taxes before 11/02/09. Other than the late payment penalty and interest, is there any benefit of doing, say 6 deposits of $5,000 (SS, Med, Withholding) compared to one $30,000 deposit? Booger
  13. Wouldn't Form 8894 (Asset Acquisition Statement) come into play here? Booger
  14. Wishing you a very happy (belated) birthday, Catherine. XXOO Booger

    Form 4868

Hello, everybody. New client prepared his own Form 4868. On his handwritten form, he has his name, but NOT his spouses. However, he HAS listed both his SS # and his wife's SS # on the appropriate lines. If filing separately for 2008, will the IRS accept this extension for BOTH spouses? Instructions for the form were no help. I'm thinking YES, since both SS #s were listed. Thanks in advance for your responses. Booger

I think this question comes up EVERY YEAR. No, there is no problem with it, if that's what the client wants to do. Booger
  21. Catherine, listened last night. Great Job! Booger
  22. Thanks, Catherine...I'll listen to it tonight (at a client's right now). Booger
  23. AMEN, Margaret! Can't wait until I hear it. Booger
  24. Catherine, I won't be able to listen to it live, but do you know whether it will be available tonight? I would like to hear it. Booger
