  1. It was a WOW in buffalo - -clear, cold & bright!!!
  2. I have been filing this client's return for over 20 years. Due to the fact that they had a Tuition credit, Iw as unable to E file until yesterday. this morning, I received a rejection that either the client or the spouse's SS# has been used on another return. I am guessing that there was a typo on another return, leaving me no choice but to have my client send their return in by mail along with a copy of their SS cards. Does anyone have any other suggestion? Thanks!
  3. Ok - -I just updated again - -and the residential energy credit is there - - BUT - -I had to close that return , go to another one and the second return's e-file was created - - - went back the to the first one, and I sent them both off - - - - Now, let's see when they get accepted!!! WOO HOO!!!
  4. I created & efiled 5 tax returns with Tuition credit - -still waiting for Energy Credits and I understand that we won't hear from Andover until tomorrow - - -

    Name control ?

I could be wrong, but I agree with Booger - - then again - -who doesn't!! I believe that the SS dept pretty much compares the first 5 letters of the last name, so I do the same with the abbreviation.
  6. We have them here in Buffalo, NY - - -which - -by the way - -there is NO SNOW!!!!! At least - -for a day or so - - - -

    W-2G

Since we live near a number of gambling institutions, I do see a fair share of W-2G's. I have explained to my clients the rules about the losses, and I SWEAR - -they go to the Off Track Betting places & sweep the floor!!! The clients who do this on a regular basis also know to use their comp cards - -and believe it or not, the statements they receive show the money they put into the slots. Now - - -that being said - - -the ones who win at a table - - - -I NEVER hear about that!!!
  8. Not only is it NOT eligible for the credit - -it absolutely MUST be added back into the NYS wages!! I believe it's a 414 non exemt. If you do not add this back, the client will get a wonderful letter in about 8 mos. And, for the record, almost ALL NYS employees who have this 414 contribution owe NYS taxes. You can reassure them though, that NONE of their pension will be taxable in NYS.
  9. I had a similar situation a number of years back. Apparently the large payroll company erred and changed all the single taxpayers to married status . EVERY person at the business had owed for the first time ever. NO ONE changed their W-4's and the payroll company response - - "You should have realized there was less being withheld every pay".
  10. THANKS !!! I found the answeron the irs.gov page unter practioners - -she does qualify for the EIC even without taking the dependency - -all other tests are met.
  11. Due to divorce, taxpayers alternate dependency exemptions each year for 1 of three children. Each also get to claim one every year. My question, is the custodial parent still eligible for the Earned Income Credit for the child she is NOT claiming this year?
  12. I FOUND IT!!!! OK - - -sooooooooooooo every year I have to re-learn this - - by using the "custom" option ( which I always do) I keep forgetting that I can click on EACH INDIVIDUAL FORM ( IE - -CLIENT LETTER) and the miscellaneous forms show up where I can choose to NOT print them. Now about that state e-filing NOT info rolling over to the client letter - - - -
  13. Ok - -every year I go through this - -maybe this will be my last year of asking for help!!! I thought I had set my print wizard to put the privacy in the Fed & state combined letters, but it still prints a separate one, al;ong with an options page, a mailng slip, return cover page and some estimated vouchers page. AND - -I still cannot get the letter to show that the state return has been e-filed. Everyone has been VERY helpful - -I appreciate any input! Thanks! Terry O
  14. I am getting the same notice also.
  15. THANK YOU !!! If I could remember, I think I forget that little item EVERY YEAR !!! Terry O
  16. Ok - - -sooooooooooo I am missing something here - -or rather, I should say - -the form is missing - -all last years information! I keep getting the message to update from the web - -but no info appears from 2006. I must be having a moment - -and it's only 1/7!!! Thanks, Terry O
  17. Has anyone been able to locate or download the Prior Year comparison? Thanks! Terry O
  18. THANKS !!! Terry O (old accountants never die - - they just lose their BALANCE!!!)

    EIN #

I tried to do the test efile this am, and the check keeps coming back that the return needs an EIN. I do not have an EIN as a sole proprietor/one person show here. In the past, my efiles have gone through without needing the EIN - -I have tired putting in the PTIN, but no go. Has anyone else had this problem? Terry O
  20. Has anyone attempted to "guestimate" 2007 tax liability using the 2006 planner - - - Orrrrrrrrrrrr attempted to use "guestimate" figures in the 2007 program for exstimating the 4th qtr estimate payment. When I was working on a MFJ client figures, there was a $5000 difference between the 2006 planner & the 2007 programs total tax liabilities, for an income of 200,000 with about 16, 000 in itemized deductions. the income was actually LOWER this year, but the additional tax liability was almost $5,000. Thanks! Terry O

    Backups

What are the best ways to back up client files each year without additional hard drives? I only have a few clients, and would like to back them up for future use on another computer if necessary and would use either CD's or USB's. Thank you
  22. Thanks!! Just one of those days/weeks/months - - - - Due to the fact that this client shows up with 3 yrs - -I guess I was trying to make it as easy as possible for the other partners who wil be on the hook - - - - Again, as always, thank you all for the help!
  23. I guess I was just trying to make the Sec 179 election, and have it actually compute on the 1065 instead of overriding it, which has been my practice in the past, since there is no documentation on the actual PRGRAM - -not the tax rules, but the PROGRAM. I have entered all the asset info, trying to make the election to expense the asset out in 1 year, however, I am totally missing something, all combination of entries still do NOT transfer to the form as a 179 expense. this has been a source of technical confusion for me ever since I have been with ATX - -especially the year they made the depreciation a separate module - - - Thank you guys anyways - - maybe you can't teach on old dog new tricks!!!
  24. I am having a VERY senior moment - -I cannot, for the life of me, remember how to get an asset to be a 179 depreciation for 2004-2006. Any help would be greatfully appreciated! Thank You! Terry O
  25. Ok - -I have a client who had not shown up for the past 3 years, and I figured - - he went elsewhere. But NOOOOOOOOOOO - -he had some personal problems and never filed his 1120S or 1040, or IT-201 or CT3S . My questions is - - -would anyone suggest sending ALL the Federal returns in one envelope with a letter begging forgiveness or separating them out and sending in 6 different returns. Not only do we have this problem - - no NYS tax returns were filed either. I'm guessing there will definitely be penalties on the state Corp side. The "good" news, is that they are all years with losses - - again, due to the tragic personal issues. Thank you for your help! Terry O
