Atx tax 2013 storage location may only be modified from server

There is indeed a way to accomplish this - I did it with the help of a knowledgable ATX tech as the documentation is not up to date. You do an update on the SERVER - this will download the Admin console, where you can then move the data storage from your C: drive to where you want it.

Did he say it would work for a standalone?

I like my data in a separate partition because it's easier to backup. In my case, Carbonite Pro won't let me backup the folders where ATX stores both the data and the backups. I'm just going to routinely copy the ATX file to my data partition where Carbonite will let me back them up. I'm switching to CrashPlan after tax season.

You can just tell carbonite where the folder is. Moving the files is a risky thing. Program updates in the future my not like it. Easier to configure carbonite to backup the appropriate folder than to mess with where ATX2013 puts the files.

The problem with carbonite is that it will not back up a protected drive.

I had a client that had that problem so we just created a folder in the already backup Carbonite Data folder and used to the copy button in the back up returns window to create a manual duplicate of the files. Just created the folder in there and the sub folders for the backup time and date as the label.

You can use the Admin Console if you have a server installation. You dont need the program to access it. Since it is external of the program.

Just go to start - programs - cch small firm services - atx 2013 - admin console.

I didn't ask - my environment is ATX on server and access from client workstations. Using their tool, I moved the files off of C: and on to D: on the server and all seems to be well in the world in my install.

I will inquire. For some reason, I seem to be able to get quality answers when I send e-mails to them these days....

If it is a standalone install, I would expect the admin console approach would simply work there as there is no server involved. There have been several program updates since this thread was first started!
