just completed mine online.  First, I reviewed the CE credits in my PTIN account.  Some were missing but I had enough of a cushion it didn't matter.  Apparently the IRS is matching claimed credits to your PTIN account and rejecting applications that appear to lack hours, so you can try and get that straightened out with providers before applying and/or have your ducks in a row to prove you have them.  The matching is fairly new, as in years past I believe they only challenged hours via an audit.

Speaking of an audit, I was surprised to learn you are supposed to keep CE records for the last four years.  However, if the credits are on your PTIN account, I can't see where this would be an issue.

Anyone else who is renewing this cycle: when you receive your card, I would be interested in knowing how long it took to get; I know many of us have been nervous when March comes around and we haven't heard.

I need to renew mine soon, I goofed on the prior renewal and did not include copies of my CE hours.  I was contacted by a person and was able to resolve everything via email.

Two renewals ago I waited until the last day and didn't receive my card until late April.

I have never had to include copies of my CPE credit hours. They should have that on file cross referenced to your PTIN.

Agreed, never had an issue before.

I check my numbers as soon as I'm done getting my hours for the year to make sure we match. I print off the certificates, staple them, write my total at the top and put it in a file. On the outside of the file is my yearly total and how many I need to reach my 3 year requirement. I know I need 16 for 2025. Your CPE hours have been on the IRS site for many years.

A couple of years ago I did my hours with a firm and they didn't submit to the IRS right away. I called and they asked if I needed them expedited and I said no. Their reply was that they only submit 1x per month but would expedite it for anyone that needed it done really quickly for whatever reason. Everyone else has always done it right then.

I've never given the IRS copies of proof of CPE as far as I can remember.

I renewed last year; CPE info was correct. Took a couple months to get my card, IIRC. I do keep paper and PDF copies of all my CPE certificates. Eventually the paper gets tossed, but electrons are cheap so those I keep.
