Karen Lee
I e-mailed last week and got a canned reply. I searched on this forum for discussion and kept getting an error. Should I calculate, override and mail in returns? There are quite a few NOLs in this part of the country. Your opinions please. Thanks Karen

Thanks Karen Karen, the only warning message that I have received is that the NOL worksheet cannot be paper filed. I have had two nol's so far this year, adjusted the NOL worksheet, and efiled with no problem. Maribeth
RoyDaleOne
Are you asking about the 1045 and 1045 Schedule A, also?
kcjenkins
As to the search function, it will not search for words of less than 4 letters, so trying to search for NOL will not work. Try searching for Operating Loss instead. As for the form, it will efile, and frankly I see no reason not to also use it for paper filing, ignoring that warning, because you can use the worksheet in the Pub, and this is the same thing. Karen Lee
Well that takes care of a big backload. Thanks so much. No I wasn't asking about the 1045. You guys are wonderful. Karen

Karen But can the 1045 be e-filed yet? The screen _still_ says "DRAFT" all over it.
David1980
But can the 1045 be e-filed yet? The screen _still_ says "DRAFT" all over it. The 1045 can't be efiled at all. http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=204167,00.html
Catherine
The 1045 can't be efiled at all. http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=204167,00.html Then I guess it has to wait for a version that doesn't say "DRAFT". Thanks. In all the "e-file anything that moves!" pressure, sometimes I forget there are still things that are paper only.
kcjenkins
What you can do, if you really need to file a 1045 right now, is to do it in ATX, print out the draft copy, then go to the IRTS website and fill out the fillable form there, and mail it in. with the NOL worksheets as attachments. joelgilb
boy that would be a pain in the butt. And can you really bill for the extra time? guess there are not a lot of choices, although I would make the client wait unless they want to pay extra! kcjenkins
Actually, it does not take very long when you have the 'draft' copy to go by, and you use all the program worksheets, so it is just the 1045 itself that you have to fill out. And if they are in a rush to file, to get a significant refund, they are not going to quibble over the time charged.
joelgilb
I bow to you KC, you get better clients than me! LOL

KC - What is the IRTS website for fillable forms you mention here? I am not familiar with that website.
kcjenkins
http://www.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/formsInstructions.html Then type in 1045 in the box, and it will give you the form. Notice that the date the IRS posted this form was 2/28, so ATX should have it very soon.
Kea
Not to be too picky, but I checked out this link for an NOL I need to complete. The revision is 2/28 but 2008.
