Yardley CPA
Can someone please provide me with a general explanation as to what the purpose of "holding" a state return efile is? When I am efiling a federal 1040 with multiple state returns, I receive a message of whether I want to hold the state returns? I don't have a good understanding of what the purpose of that is? If you choose yes, is the state return held until the federal return is accepted? Is that the purpose?
grandmabee
yes it so you don't efile the state only efile by mistake before the federal is accepted. because if you do and the federal is rejected for something that will effect the state return then you will have to amend the state because you already sent it. Catherine
Thank you, bcolleen After one "oops" a couple of years ago I started to hold state e-files -- thanks to advice from members of this forum (and a belated thank you, whoever you were). This has had the delightful side effect of several years of no substantive Federal e-file rejections! Who says sympathetic magic doesn't work? However, long around April 12th I stop holding those state returns. Catheirne
