Error: The value must be numeric and without cents.

Is anyone else annoyed by this new "feature" this year?

Error: The value must be numeric and without cents. (Limited to 15 characters)

This occurs when you use the equals equations in a blue field on anything that feeds the 1040.

Ex: =922.55+802.66+788.6

The grey field correctly resolves to 2,514 but this generates an error when generating the e-file.

This is a computer program for crying out loud! It can store the resultant whole number in a variable pretty easily and use that for calculations.

This was never a problem in previous years, but in someone's infinite wisdom they saw fit to make this an error this year. I prefer having the equations there as it provides more information than merely the result when we have need to go back into the return to look at something.

When "forward" progress is disguised as a step backwards....

There are two other "improments". On the W-2, they made the control number variable numeral. So when you enter a control number like 0430-13488, you get an error message. You also get an error message when you enter 0430 13488 or when you enter 0430XZ.

Also, they made the employeer name and address an alpha-numeric variable. When you enter a special carather, you get an error message. So, if the company trade name is L&L, Inc. you get an error message. If you enter Smith & Wesson, Inc. you get an error. On the address field, you get an error if you enter C/O Steve Anderson or when you enter 1333-2 Wisconsin Avenue.

Big "improvements".

Wouldn't you like to be in the room when the development team was discussing these feechurs???

Don't know whether ATX fixed rounding issues, but you should develop the habit of adding:

=round(922.55+802.66+788.6,0)

I had this bite me in the a$$ a few years when AGI WASN'T what was displayed on the return (pennies added to the number for calculations, but NOT for display).

Jim

Thanks for the tip, Jim. Will give that a try as a solution!
