EFile Rejection - Dependent name not matching

Recommended Posts

One of my return is getting rejected for the mismatch of name and SS# of dependent.

Dependent name is printed on SS Card as " John Rosa King Martinez".

I tried to submit with (1) John King-Martinez (2) John K Martinez (3) J Martinez. all 3 got rejected.

I tried to abbreviate with 3 different combination and still getting rejected.

How do I fix this so I can efile. I tried to search but can not figure it out.

TIA.

I doubt it's all on one line as you show, since the SSN card isn't that wide.

Usually the SSN prints the First and Middle on Line 1.

Then the Last names are printed on Line 2.

IRS only cares about the FIRST 4-5 characters of the FIRST last name.

Try John R. King

The kid now has a girl's middle name because his parents didn't know how to fill out a SSN application properly.

Besides, it's ludicrous that the SSA has not updates the SSN card to include labeled fields such as "First Name", "Middle Name", and "Last Name". This would be so easy for them to do.

Try John Rosa, as well as John King and John Martinez. I had a brit with two middle names; SSA knew him by his first name and one of the middle names.

The new cards are supposed to break out the last name on it's own line, but that doesn't help us with anyone who's not a baby or new cardholder.

I wouldn't assume that Rosa is a girl's name. It could be a last name as well. The name Maria is also used in mens' names as well.
