When Congress asks me to restructure the tax code next week (it was nice of them to wait until after the 15th) I'm going to start with a new category called General Deductions. They won't actually reduce the tax, but they will show on the return. That way I won't have to argue. I'll just say, "Personally I don't think it's deductible but I put it right there on Schedule A for you!"

Well, it is goodbye to the tax season. But many of us will be around here throughout the year. First of all, there's the matter of extensions - sometimes the most interesting questions arise after Apr 15. Secondly, there's the ongoing technical discussion about how ATX progresses in developing the program. Thirdly, there's the interesting marketing issue of how they manage their damage control. Lastly, there may be a discussion looming about the name & direction of this forum in the future. Many of us are unlikely to be ATX users in the future, but we still appreciate the tremendous benefits of having an independent forum regardless of our choice of vendor. We should have a conversation about how best to keep it active and relevant to both ATX users and non-ATX'ers.

I have a bunch of standard-deduction folks who nevertheless give me their Schedule A items. For them, I just add the Schedule A and print it out in the client copy. It doesn't transmit -- but they see it and are happy.

Sounds like he's shown a little contrition. I would appreciate his honesty - many people are too proud & stubborn to do what he did. I'd assume he came to his senses after he calmed down. It happens.

did anyone see the article where a school for the deaf wants a 3 y/o to change his name or spell it out because the sign for his name looks like finger gun? the world has gone crazy.

I have to check each of those because Delaware is a state that allows itemized deductions when the federal uses the standard. It is a pain because when this occurs, I have to submit the returns separately and tell the program to force the itemized on the federal so that Sch A will transmit with the state, all the while being careful not to submit the federal that way. Any other way and Delaware doesn't receive the Sch A even though the return has the itemized deductions on it.

I have 2 dozen personal clients just like that, and at the firm probably 200+. They don't even mind the charge for the form!!

THIS is by bordering town, totally unbelievable but I made a contribution to his legal fund. I also told my daughter that she can;'t count on her fingers anymore. 1-she raises her thumb and 2-she raises her pointer. I am serious that I told her not to count like this anymore.

Well, back in the old days, I could sign the extension for the client when the 4868 required a signature. Now, I just efile the extension. I figure I still have the right to sign for the client and I am simply not going to go through the hassle of having the client sign. All of my clients going on extension know that I am putting them on extension so I have their 'virtual' signature anyway.

I'd rather meet someone at 11pm than am any day!
