  1. IRS pins will be important for this filing season. I have already dealt with 3 clients who have experienced issues of identity theft. Could be related to this breach or could just be a coincidence.

  2. When I discovered a client's SSN was being used by an "independent contractor" for DoorDash in California, I worried that someone was impersonating him. I assumed that they required drivers to provide a license and proof of insurance to work for them. But nothing ever happened beyond the 1099-NEC that DoorDash issued. Now I suspect that all someone has to do is download the app.

  3. From what I know Instacart requires you to have auto insurance. But most personal policies do not cover you if get in an accident while making deliveries (and many companies do not offer the riders). Not sure if Instacart checks to make sure you actually have insurance and it covers you while making deliveries. I am surprised NY, which highly regulates the insurance industry, has not addressed this issue.

  4. I was wondering if the client could get the policy attached to a GL policy instead of the Auto policy. Even that may be a stretch because it is still auto insurance covered under the Standard Mileage Rate. I think your client is not going to get the extra deduction for the policy. Tom Longview, TX

  5. @schirallicpa I would hire @Patrick Michael to walk me through it. And add his bill to your invoice to her. If the client is paying you to know it all, your bill should reflect the cost of learning it all. Tom Longview, TX

  6. Which phone company doesn't collect user information? When we had a landline, Southwestern Bell would send us a monthly bill showing all of the people we called long distance, when we called them and the duration of the call. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they had all that data on local calls and didn't disclose it since they didn't bill for it. Your cell phone company knows when and where you ping off any cell tower in the country / world. We had a guy locally who was convicted because his car kept track of everywhere it was driven, speeds driven, when it was driven and sent to the manufacturer. The police used it to figure out where he buried his wife.

  7. Mine is in there too. The baddies had at least 4 months head start and there is no mass news of issues. Normal protections and monitoring should be fine, as well as realizing your ssn has not been reliably for many many years.
