  1. In addition to the thumb drives the same as TAXMAN, I do complete system backups onto alternating external hard drives and keep them in the safe. Hopefully this will save me in case I ever need saving. Since IT is here often and checking everything over and updating, I feel fairly safe. Without him, I would be fried. Also, he eats whatever I happen to have available at any given time.

  2. I check my numbers as soon as I'm done getting my hours for the year to make sure we match. I print off the certificates, staple them, write my total at the top and put it in a file. On the outside of the file is my yearly total and how many I need to reach my 3 year requirement. I know I need 16 for 2025. Your CPE hours have been on the IRS site for many years. A couple of years ago I did my hours with a firm and they didn't submit to the IRS right away. I called and they asked if I needed them expedited and I said no. Their reply was that they only submit 1x per month but would expedite it for anyone that needed it done really quickly for whatever reason. Everyone else has always done it right then. I've never given the IRS copies of proof of CPE as far as I can remember.

  3. Two renewals ago I waited until the last day and didn't receive my card until late April. I have never had to include copies of my CPE credit hours. They should have that on file cross referenced to your PTIN.

  5. I need to renew mine soon, I goofed on the prior renewal and did not include copies of my CE hours. I was contacted by a person and was able to resolve everything via email.

  6. For someone who uses Drake, Judy has a lot of knowledge about ATX. Thank goodness. She should have written the instructions for ATX. Tom Longview, TX

  7. Install ATX on your system. Download the authenticator to your mobile device. Open ATX 2024 and create your password. It should bring up a screen with the QR box to scan and a box to enter the initial authenticator code. Leave this screen open and go to #4. On your phone, open the authenticator and click the + button and point the camera at the QR box. It should scan the QR and automatically set up "ATX 2024...." and generate a numeric code to enter into the ATX program. This is the initial code that pairs your software with your mobile device. Enter that code into the box in the ATX software that you opened in step #3. It should be paired now. From then on when you open ATX, you will enter your password and then it will ask for a 6-digit code from the authenticator. Open the authenticator and look for the one that says "ATX 2024" and it should have the 6-digit code to enter. That code is good for 30 seconds and will automatically refresh every 30 secs. Make sure the clocks on the computer and the mobile device are the same, otherwise the codes will not be in sync and may not work because of the 30 second refresh rate.

  8. Is he still rude? I feel like it is never a good idea to ignore a client request, it just feels yukky to me to ghost a former client. Be professional when you decline or accept the engagement. Why is he coming to you and not his current preparer? Ask him. If the answer is something like "I realize I made a mistake in how I treated you and I would like to resume our relationship" you will have a client for life. And he won't be rude anymore. If his answer is rude, politely decline. Tom Longview, TX

  9. Indeed, some who are in business might be ignorant, but it is no excuse for compliance via direct knowledge, or by paying for knowledge. Meaning ignorance is costly, not bliss.
