  1. Arrgghh! I figured out what the problem was. On Part IX I indicated the grant was to domestic individuals instead of domestic organizations. I sure wish this stupid computer would enter what I intended to do instead of what I actually put in. Stupid computer What I don't know is why the Check Return routine was linking back to Part IV instead of Part IX where the error was.

  3. I have many clients tell me how they are making money from them, because of the monthly/quarterly distributions. Then I show them that it isn't coming from INCOME, but from PRINCIPAL. Usually 50-60% from Principal. And I ask them who are they selling these assets to when they want to get out? That always makes for a great Client "face". And did we notice how many clients have these K-1's THIS year? Because the sharp guys on Wall Street were dumping them. Oil market/prices are going down, so sell these assets that were going up, that are starting to go DOWN, to *our* clients. Thanks big brokerage firms.... You just stuffed the investment dreams of your clients. Rich

  4. OLTPRO and ONEDESK are the same software. I have used onedesk for the past three tax years. I did have issues with the program this year more then others. Forget the MFJ/MFS doesn't work unless the couple are both W-2 only no kids and do not itemize deductions. You have to keep a eye on the AMT calculations, be aware it assume Mortgage Interest is NOT qualified. If for example the TP works in one state and lives in another and the W-2 only list the work state you have to enter the home state and make up a EIN other wise the income will not carry to the home state. Things such as this are quarks and once you are aware of them it's a non issue. I renewed with OLTPRO for $399. The program is worth that much, but not a lot more.

  5. It's very hard, sometimes, to protect them. Even if this gentleman was living with family -- if you really want to get out, you get out. My sympathies to the driver; that will be a nasty memory to live with. And to the family of the eld himself; they probably feel guilt as well as the loss of a family member.

  6. All right, I cuss a little, but I love Jesus. And here is part of your problem - clergy (at least here in my little town) sometimes come across as feeling entitled to more for less. My mother used to practically give away her work to clergy. I undercharge everybody, but I don't undercharge clergy more. I have no problem telling them I have a ministry, too. My ministry is feeding my kids. And my kids are leaders in church and everybody has a ministry, not just pastors. I was furious that my pastor talked a kid out of playing professional baseball because he was needed on the church staff. What???? You can't witness on the baseball field???? OK, sorry I got off on a rabbit trail there. And, yes, my pastor makes more than me. He can pay for tax prep - they gotta get over thinking we owe them something. Nobody owes anybody anything, and yes, a workman is worthy of his wages.
