  1. We are updating to 2014. We have been using 2011 without any of the problems you described. Intuit is very proud of their product and their price shows it.
  2. As a math freak in school, it is a simple circular equation.
  3. Not a requirement to prepare payroll. That is a sales gimmick line. I do several client's payroll and decided against Pro Advisor as unnecessary expense. We only update QuickBooks every 3 years. They have a good product, but the value does not equal updating every year.
  4. How much does it cost you to remain a Pro-Advisor? Do they still require you to buy new software every year? To save 1/4 to 1/2 percent, it would take $20,000 to #40,000 in business to recoup $500.
  5. Lose 4% funds and 20% of the work. Sounds like a good plan. My average per return is now $120 vs $100. I am all over those odds!! Maybe have time to have dinner with my wife a few times during season. "PRICELESS"
  6. If, after explaining all the reasons, I lose clients, it will only be for one season. The will be back which will mean an additional increase for them. I am priced very competitively, even with a 20% increase. I don't want clients that only come to be because I am the "cheapest" preparer. My value as a preparer has increased with all the additional classes and learning to cope with the new things, and I am a professional and expect to be paid. If I raise my prices 20%, and lose 20% of my clients, I make the same money and do 20% less work. I would also loose clients that do not appreciate a professional.
  7. If everyone does not take advantage of the confusion and increase in regulations for this coming tax season to implement at least a 10% increase, you will miss the boat. I am actually considering 20% for my base price, and several larger increases for the other additionals and add-ons.
  8. That form is for MA. No such Federal Form is in existence yet. It would be provided by the insurance companies and would not be anything we would need to create. IF such a form is created, and IF the insurance companies across the country LEARN HOW TO PRODUCE THEM, and IF the insurance companies learn HOW TO DO THEM CORRECTLY, and IF the rest of the taxpayers in the other 49 states LEARN TO KEEP THEM, and IF the taxpayers BRING THEM TO US, and IF the IRS gives us the CORRECT FORMS, WORKSHEETS AND INSTRUCTIONS, then it "MAY" be an easy thing. Using the experiences of the people of MA as an example is very sketchy at best. One state, a VERY SMALL percentage of the total population of the country and it has taken them 5 years to get it "right?"
  9. Richcpaman, YES. Just follow the installation instruction. You have a choice for 'server only" or "server and workstation." Unlike all prior years, 2013 IS compatible with server software in all respects.
  10. The penalty does not come into play till tax year 2014 tax returns. However, there are deadlines for having insurance.
  11. I have no experience going backward because I have never moved a system from Win7 to Win8. I will research it and get back to you.
  12. ATX 2012 and 2013 will NOT function properly if you try to use a virtual network. It is now a true server based program. Beat your head against the wall if you will, but it will not function properly. The designers did NOT intend for it to be used in a virtual network situation.
  13. ATX does not offer a cloud based program.
  14. You have ignored my advice to FORGET EVERYTHING YOU KNEW ABOUT INSTALLATION FROM PRIOR YEARS!!!! Let it gooooooooo Let it goooooooooo It is 2013 now. Let it gooooooooooooooooooooo
  15. Izzet, You are correct. ATX is not designed to be used that way, and he knows it. He just keeps pushing the issue.
  16. A true serious hacker will not be discovered for months. The security flaws have been identified by experts. it is only a matter of time.
  17. jshtax, you are asking the program to do things it is not designed to do. One user of the program on one workstation. It actually is a server based program in this respect. I cannot fathom why you want more than one person logged into the program on the same workstation at the same time? Maybe you need more workstations?
  18. You are correct.
  19. I have had 4 open simultaneously. I will be opening 8 simultaneously first of next week. I have even been able to open 3 returns at a time on the workstations. Did you setup the network settings for ATX on the server before installing workstations? This must be done in correct order. The programs must ALL be installed on C: drive directly. No mapping of drives. The workstation install will then look to the network for the server and allow you to choose it. All these are just following the directions provided, and FORGET EVERYTHING FROM ALL PRIOR YEARS about installation.
  20. I do not have any problem pushing the caplock key for tax returns, and pushing it again for other items. I learned how to do that as a freshman in High School. Minutia
  21. I have had my private practice for 13 years. I have worked for the firm since Feb. 2004. Therefore, the issue of clients wanting to follow me to my "new" place is moot. The firm I work for has several other preparers with equal or more experience than myself, and will provide the same quality service. I an NOT telling any clients from the firm that I will be leaving. The firm and I have truly been symbiotic. I have less than any reason to take clients. In the future, I may want to purchase his business...
  22. barosser, Check your messages.
  23. mcb, that is EXACTLY where I am. Two more seasons, and I am independent. I will NOT take any clients from my employer. Nor will I take new clients after I leave that have been clients of my current employer. There is enough new business for me without cutting out from my employer.
  24. When you import the return back, you must tell the program to replace the one that is there.
  25. I have been that employee for 10 years now. I work for the firm and have my own practice. The owner and I established all the limits and guidelines as part of my being hired. It has been a very good symbiotic relationship.
