  1. I dont know how many 2007 returns you have. But to keep a head start on learning the software I would do as many 2007 returns on the program as you have time for. Especially choose different types of returns and do all the returns that have depreciation schdules. I understand that depreciation information does not always convert correctly. The learning advantage to doing this is invaluable. Good luck on your endeavor.
  2. I understand that XP Home Edition is not networkable. You need the XP Pro edition to network. I dont know about the Vista Windows but would assume you could use it.

    Form1065

You are having a problem with TRX similar to doing any returns that are not simple 1040's. Their written documentation leaves a lots to be desired. I have had problems in figuring out many of my returns. I will say that the technical staff has been just great in helping me. I am a new user who has been entering my 2007 returns into their Orr program. Not being used to a forms approach to software I have had difficulty figuring out what to do. Of course when they tell me it is simple but not is the case when you are first using the software. For example I looked at the business returns in their software. It is simple to select business returns but to add a new return always come up to an individual return. Do you add the info on the business screen that is listed. I dont know. I am sure it is a simple thing to do when you have done your first. I would be interested in how you do with the 1065. In final conclusion I think TRX Orr should provide written information on using their software for situations beyond the simpld 1040's, like Sch C, Sch E, depreciation schdules and the like. It seems to me that the depreciation life patterns are not sufficient. Of course you can do these manually but it would be better to have more choices in the life cycle of many of the assets. These are just some of my thoughts. I am a first time user of the software who used a menu approach software for many years. I will adjust and learn as time passes.

    TRX

 Thanks David. You're right. When I checked the info at the top of the form it worked beautifully. I looked forever because I assumed that question would be in the form itself. Oh the learning curve of a new software. That was one of my biggest fears in changing over. But thanks to people like you the process become easier. Thanks again.

    TRX

 I am a new user of TRX Orr and am having some trouble with entering 6252 data to flow to Sch D correctly. Interest is no problem because I enter it manually on Sch B. I have both short term and long term capital gains one each on two 6252's. Do these have to be entered on Sch D manually. I can't get them to flow to Sch D. The same is true for dependent care credit Form 2441. Does this credit have to entered manually on 1040 line 47? Thanks for your assistance. I am inputting some of my returns to get use to the program.
  6. About 3 days. Why don't you download it off their web site? Call 1-866-829-9777 and click for sales department. and talk to them.
  7. :scratch_head: When considering a replacement software one always wonders what the technical support will be. After using one company for several years I decide to switch to TRX Orr. The company sent me their 2007 demo program. This demo is for playing around with and seeing what the program can do. I ordered the software and received another 2007 demo disk. I called their support line and got a woman who spent over two hours with me on the phone. She used a sharing desktop program and deleted the demo program, downloaded and installed the 2007 program, all while I watched the desktop. If this is any indication of the kind of technical support offered by TRX then it is the best that I have every encountered. I look forward to a successful and happy relationship with this consortium of independent tax preparers.
  8. I switched too. I am inpressed with the way this program keeps you up to date. Painlessly. I still have some questions but plan to call for help tomorrow. I also am scheduled for a telephone training session the middled of May. Is your 2007 program an demo version or the full program? I am having trouble with some funcations with the demo. Also I like the right click and zoom feature that gets larger fonts and forms.
  9. Thanks, Jainen, for your reply. I checked the county tax assessors web site and because the condo is on land owned by the association the land is not included in the assessment. So if I decided to rent seasonly or by the year the basis of the condo would basically be what I paid for it. except for added improvements. You are right in that their are all kinds of condo arrangements in effect. Many are on land lease arrangements. That's what make our working interesting.
  10. Well why dont you guys answer the poster's question. I own a condo. It sold in 2005 for $147,000. The land is owned by the Association. The condos in the association are all in 2 story buildings. If the county assessor has appraised the condo for tax purposes and has not made the distinction in his valuation between the land and the condo how would I or anyone determine separate basis for land and the condo? How would a realtor determine the basis for each?
  11. They (Gina Purkey or Nick) will send you this year 2006 program. Configure (install) it to your liiking. Pick 2 or 4 sampling of your returns and do them. Call the help line for assistance. or Use the help feauture written into the program. Ask about their conversion program. Enter the personal info first and then you can g0 to the 1040 and click on the space for what you need.
  12. I do not understand some of your posts against TS Pro. I have the software from 2000 and have used it since 2002. I thin k if you look at this package over several years your would see how this company tries to improve it software from its users comments after each year. TaxSoftware has to be user tested and be constantly evaluated by its users to be an effective software. For the tax preparer with 1040 business and multi state returns there is none better. It also include all entity returns and unlimited efiling. TaxSlayer demonstrates a continuing commitment to its clients. Don't judge this product by its product in the past. Even the 2006 product will be improved for the 2007 tax season. As I read Message Boards all software will have its short comings for any given year. TS Pro is a company of tax professionals who developed software for themselves. When you call them you will speak to another tax preparer not some programmer or business executive. Will they sell out? I doubt it. It is owned by the Rhodes family of Augusta, Ga. If you attend the Master's be sure to leave time to visit this company. I have no interest of anykind in this company other than being extremely satisfied with Tax Slayer Pro which I use.
