  1. After all the years of Joking about Chaz and Crazy Mary............ Someone tell JB that Chaz has officially caught me! BUD ------------ WEI-------------- SER
  2. Thanks for helping me confirm my angle on this so far. I'll be meeting with my client later on this week after making more inquires.
  3. Client presents me with a K-1 from an Estate which he/she is 1 of 12 beneficiaries. Line 5 Other portfolio income presents a significant amount of income! I'm keeping in mind that most inherited amounts are non-taxable to the extent of the initial basis in the asset. My instincts are just telling me I'm not looking or digging deep enough into this amount. Advise, guidance, Hit over the head with the tax book, anything to get me thinking would be appreciated. Thank You Pikester
  4. I had the same problem last year with the February update on my stand alone computer. Problem was malware preventing the software to connect. Try downloading this free software, run it and then try a reinstall from the web-site. https://www.malwarebytes.org/ Regards, Pikester
  5. Guess I've taken a somewhat different approach this season regarding reviewing returns and assisting taxpayers. I'm volunteering thru the VITA/TCE program two days per week. Appears to be a win/win situation as I get continuing education credits, based on my level of assistance, plus the liability issue is covered by the Federal Volunteers Act. Comments would be appreciated since is the first year I'll be providing this community outreach type service.
  6. "Taco Bell is going to start selling nachos and chicken nuggets wrapped in a tortilla. In other words, thank God we're going to keep Obamacare." –Conan O'Brien After reading all this ACA information, plus just returning from my siesta, I've come to one conclusion! I'm hungry anyone ready for lunch?
  7. Apparently I'm very thorough in my work, taking the time with each client to explain things in detail. (Per client whom returned after my temp hiatus from practicing) We appear to of found a niche atleast.
  8. Very interesting information everyone! Thank You for all the responses.
  9. Looking for thoughts and opinions on how useful members are finding his/her tablet? Trying to avoid buying a technical toy. How productive is the device and how do other's use it would be good information. Thank You
  10. TY everyone. Appears Medlin and ATX combination is the cheapest alternative.
  11. Have 1 client requesting me to prepare and process the payroll. All they wish to do is print out the paychecks. So I'll be completing all the tax forms, tax payments etc. Anyone have an economical solution. Trying to avoid being held hostage by 1 certain product.
  12. Thanks for the input. I totally agree regarding the sales tax. I always collect the accounting fees upfront when collecting the work from the client. Getting through the initial start-up should be fun. Just had to add my favorite icon. lol
  13. New Client, well established business approached me for help. 12 & 13 Partnership Return's, appears sales tax needs filed for 13 to present. Take over monthly accounting as well. Appears previous bookkeeper wasn't doing her job. Suggestions on fee's etc., Typically I start Partnerships at $360 and up.
  14. Had many OTR's at my practice in AR years ago. YW

  16. Anyone besides me have state returns waiting on acceptance? Got 3 been hanging out there waiting on acceptance for over 24 hours which is very odd for Ohio.
  17. This being my 1st year back in practice after caring for my son for a few years, I wanted to say Thank You to everyone for a great filing season. A special thank you to those whom helped me set my fees, and marketing/phone skit. After getting my lunch ate at first everything worked out in the long run. Thankfully, I was able to weed out and attain new good paying clients at the same time. As always, I can't forget Janitor Bob and that advise years and years ago. "Go with ATX software." For my small practice it still does the job. Thanks again everyone, now it's on to the new monthly accounts.
  18. I must of spilled my popcorn! Had 3 long ones come in on Friday, each extended and 1 easy late Saturday. Easy one be out the door, others still don't have everything they need. Had a nice little rush at the end so overall I'm happy. Happy Belated Birthday to KC and the Forum.
  19. "Remind me about this comment next year!" I'm down to two! Both going on extensions..... So I'm sitting back and Listening to you all! Remember I'm half blind so don't throw the rocks too hard lol!
  20. Client suddenly wishes to file returns from 2009 forward. Owes each year thru 2013. Appears he wants to mail in the returns? Total owed for all years is less than 10k. Pulled the transcripts and all information is correct. Was hoping to get this all set up on a repayment plan, and taken out of his paycheck weekly thru his employer. Considering how worn down I am at this point, was looking for different strategies etc. from others in here as well. Plus making sure I've not missed anything.
  21. The federal transportation per diem amount for OTR truckers is different than the standard per diem for business travel. Check his log books, he's entitled to Full or Partial days depending on whether he was home at anytime or on the road all day. Hopefully this is helpful.
