if she is in ny more than 180 days she is a resident for city purposes.

My phone craps out and I wasn't getting my email pushes so I had lots of emails I didn't see. A late client comes in missing all 1099's but brings 12 monthly statements for each account to add up interest and dividends. If it weren't for the fact she brought me a collectors bottle of single malt to save and a second bottle of glenlivet to drink I would have been pissed.

thanks ken but I didn't receive a message

Tell her she should stop telling you about her taxes because you are interviewing with the IRS as a special investigator. That should stop her in her tracks.

I don't think there is anything that could be done with this but I am throwing it out here. Client moved to US in 2009. Just sold his home in foreign country. It doesn't qualify for home sale exclusion but the foreign tax credit on taxes paid in other country wipe out his tax here. Been filing as a NY resident since 2009. I don't see a way to avoid the NY taxes on this sale. If the foreign country was Canada he could get a resident tax credit but its not. At this point we are paying the taxes but would be a real hero if I can find an exclusion and amend his return next week when things slow down.

I sort of agree, is there was a 1099 last year, not given to me this year, then its my duty to question it. That's the point of continuity with a client and your advantage then them going to turbo.

also the interest rates are constantly changing and I only enter the rate effective when I install the program.

Have a new company that is starting payroll but will he be able to avoid penalties for not making the required tax deposits? He is another bank account until the bank opens one for this business but doesn't want the new employees to be on his other businesses payroll accounts. Just another inconvenience by the shut down that also shut automated computer systems and things that didn't need to be shut.

1099 ETC IS Reasonable priced for payroll

depends on the situation, and how long it will take to respond.

what about divorce decrees where the parents alternate the deduction, will insurance have to change each year? -
wanna really laugh, come look at the return I just checked and bounced. Unbelievable the crap my staff puts out when they are so tired. in Lacerte there are preset status's to control work flow but you can add your own. I have 2 set up, one is "HUH" when they blow it and the other is "WTF" when they really blow it. And people wonder why we go through so much liquor in the office.

ummm, I got nothing! you win on this topic!

its not always our choice, K-1's don't come in till after 9/15 and then there are those doing cost segs and since this year is the year to give, we are doing more gift tax returns that ever. As of 9/15 we had about 400 individuals waiting for k-1's. the due dates need to be more staggered.

when a client wants more deductions, I hand him a bigger bill. then they get the point, deductions are nice but cost you more money than you save in taxes.
