  1. PRO was not much different than atx and I came from pro back in 2004 so a lot of the learning curve came back. in my practice, incase an individual has a special need ie student loan or going on vacation etc, I usually only do business returns till 3/1 or so then start individuals. With most business returns on quickbooks, once the worksheets are done, I can enter a return in about 10-15 minutes. I think they are easier to enter than 1040's since you have a bottom line to tie out to. Here in NY, LLC's have a filing that was due 1/30 but now 2/28 so I was forced to get a program inorder to file those forms otherwise I might have sat on the fence even longer. An associate of mine stuck with atx and only had minor issues on his stand alone set up but I lost faith more with customer support than I did with the product. Using prosystem and then lacerate in my main practice I have come to expect fast and efficient customer support and find that proseries has that. It more than offset having to pdf a few forms that proseries doesn't have or paper filing a few states extensions that pro doesn't handle.
  2. I didn't decide till the end of February to purchase proseries so there is no real rush to decide now, I would wait to those ATX diehards start using it and see their comment. Even if ATX is great I would not switch back this year, they need a real hit in the pocketbook and proseries went very smooth even if it didn't have some forms that I needed and their letters really suck. their error checking, their multi-state integration and their customer support was all fantastic. Out of 350 or so returns I had -0- rejections by tax department and only a handful of rejects by agency.
  3. revers directory shows Clarence, NY and a 100% scammer score
  4. Ken-watch out for depreciation methods and lives, carry over of last years state refunds and overpayments and opening retained earnings on all entities. Also it converts payers in atx that you might not have had for years so you might think you are missing current bank accts when you aren't
  5. FUNNY how I get emails about new products etc but no emails about this. too bad I just scheduled these days with clients or I might have attended.
  6. Looking for anywhere from $75,000-$400,000 in billings. Willing to carve up a practice if someone wants to keep individuals for example and sell off corps, or visa versa. Successfully purchased practices before with over 95% retention after 5 years.
  7. ME TOO
  8. they all sell platforms now to lift it higher off the ground to eliminate bending. Our new one has a cycle to clean it and dry it out which we use every couple of days. Never ran it with bleach or anything like that.
  9. can we ban jack from the forum for that last pun???
  10. DOES your state have state gift taxes to consider?
  11. how about putting out a program where you don't need to call customer support? I know, I know, too many cocktails at lunch!
  12. I am just commenting on the state of nursing homes in our area
  13. If you were ever in a nursing home in the city you would do anything to keep your parents out of one. As a critical care nurse, my wife would never leave her mom in one, moved mom into one of my rentals, wife quit job to care for mom, had help from medicare during the day and she spent many nights with mom. When we did try the nursing home route, we got calls at 2 in the morning "I need to use bathroom and have been ringing bell for over an hour" etc etc etc. They are over crowded and either understaffed or staffed with uncaring aides. We found from charts that mom was denied fluids after dinner so she wouldn't need bathroom [she was a big lady and hard to get out of bed], till she wound up dehydrated in hospital. The hospital physician joined us in a state complaint against the home. At another home, my wife saw that a patient with CP would be kept in bed for 3-4 days at a time without any therapy nor being put in a chair for the community room. She made a complaint on that womans behalf that had the home receive a violation. I could do on and on, my mom spent 3 years in various homes because in each one she would not yet the physical therapy needed so she would get CHF, get sent to a hospital and then get sent back to any home in the area that had an open bed. Anyone that loves their parents would do anything they could to keep them out of a home. Now for the money!!!. Luckily I had a place for mom and a skilled wife but she did give up her job, and took time from her own kids to care for mom. We would never ask for money but mom made sure that her daughter got what she left and not her brother who lived local but didn't partake in any of moms care. In my case the money was insignificant but the gesture was appreciated. BTW a skilled nursing home in NY can cost $75000-115000 per year.
  14. its a very Global outlook that ties our taxes to other countries development.
  15. The report, released Tuesday by the London-based organization of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies at the IBA’s annual conference in Boston, argues that some tax strategies cross the line into “tax abuses” that may violate internationally accepted norms of human rights. Prepared by the IBA’s Human Rights Institute Task Force, the report contends that the actions of states that encourage or facilitate tax abuses, or that deliberately frustrate the efforts of other states to counter tax abuses, could constitute a violation of their international human rights obligations, particularly with respect to people’s economic, social and cultural rights. The report, Tax Abuses, Poverty and Human Rights, asserts that tax practices contrary to the letter or spirit of international and domestic tax laws and policies have a significant negative impact on the realization of human rights in developing countries. Profits flowing out of developing countries can thus deprive governments of the resources that they need to alleviate poverty and uphold international human rights standards.
  16. wonder if we have to have our malpractice ins policies adjusted to specifically include this, I know on my annual application they ask about EIC's
  17. I don't believe in hiding out. I would have no trouble telling a client that shows up unexpectedly, to call me later on in the week to schedule an appointment. But if they convinced me [this would take 2x the normal fee] to do their work today I would add to my engagement letter. "Since your information has been presented so close to the filing deadline, I will use my best professional efforts to prepare your return accurately but You must acknowledge that I will be presenting you this return without it going through my normal review process. You agree to hold me harmless for any errors that would or should have been apparent to me if I had more time to review the final returns. Additional fees will apply if an amended return needs to be prepared."
  18. I think you stole that one from me! Its posted behind my desk in a nice frame. right next to another that says. "I don't like charging friends for services but after long and exhaustive research I have determined that my enemies won't do business with me."
  19. I am not subject to this so I can't be sure but I think if you don't have a TPRIN then you get a $50 penalty so you can just add it to the clients bill if he is surprising you with a NY requirement at this late date.
  20. anyone who has unpredictable income should go on extension. Let me list a few reasons. You might file in april and have a refund applied and then you lose a few big clients and could really use the money. You file in april and take bonus depr and then find this year much more profitable and want the deductions in 2013. And the biggest reason is you have to fund your Keogh when you file so what if you max out for 2012 in april and then have a real need for the money in 2013? by filing an extension you don't have to fund till you file. My returns is done in January but I hold it till now in case my situation changes.
  21. NY HAS no logic, its possible to be a resident of the city but not the state. remember, taxes aren't logical.
  22. if her only income is from the w-2 mentioned then full year resident is better since she will get the full year exemption against it rather than prorated. and parents claiming her has no relevance to residency. they pay for her NY apt then that is support but doesn't make her a texas resident. their rule is where did she sleep.
  23. congrats
  24. turns out I wasn't getting email pushes for 2 days. I have lots of emails to catch up on.. Thanks for the guys info.
