  1. Client has small business doing makeup for pageants, wedding and such. She had surgery this year and was unable to do the extra work. She said she had no income from it but would start up again this spring. How do I handle the C. Just delete it and start again next year with the original start date.
  2. New Client. Old CPA quit or died she doesn't know. Phone has been disconnected. I am trying to input Depreciation schedule from last years print out. This is a Duplex The problem is this CPA was all over the place. His prior Depr. doesn't ad up, He put a deck at 27.5 years and shows all depr. taken (1989) He put a 10'500 dolor roof at 15 yrs (1995) took $6,548 and quit. Improvement he took 165yrs appliance a whopping $55 he depreciated over 15yrs And a second deck he decide to use 10 yrs How would you fix this. Just override everything and continue with his methods. and what about the lost depreciation. Also the depreciation report shows no bonus depr. but one of mine is coming up with it and I can't figure out how to get it off the asset entry

  6. I know CA 541 can now be e-filed to FTB. Does anyone know if ATX supports that?
  7. Does a 1041 need to be filed if all there is is $34 of interest and the sale of residence with 0 capital gain because of step up in basis? I think yes because of 1099S on sale of residence. If it needs to be filled how do you input the sale. What form.
  8. I know the party in a divorce suing for alimony can deduct the legal fees. What about the other party trying to not pay alimony. Clients wife took him back to court for more alimony. The wife can deduct the legal fees can the husband.

  10. Why use the more complicated and expensive quickbooks if all she needs it for is check writing. Quicken office and home does the same thing and runs on mac and pc. Gives out pretty good reports also. I use both in my office.
  11. Thanks, I've been doing it that way for years and then started questioning myself this year.
  12. I'm going to need some help this year My 95 year old dad died in June. My 87 year old mom broke her pelvis in December. My 62 year old brother died the first week of February after 10 months in the hospital after a botched surgery. My mom while recovering well from her broken pelvis ended up in the hospital last Thursday with severe congestive heart failure. She is home with me now but very week and needs a lot of attention and care. All this doesn't leave much desire or time to do taxes. I have decided to call some of my more complicated and time consuming client to tell them I need to bow out this year. But I can't quit completely, This small business is my only means of income. What I am asking of all of you is that you help me with mundane question this year. My brain is already fried and research is to time consuming. I am asking ahead of time because I don't think I could handle any snide remarks for stupid questions. Here is my first simple I should know it question. Client ( digs the holes for pools) Has an office in home. He travels to bid jobs from home, mileage is deductible. He has a shop/yard where he keeps his heavy equipment and picks up his employees to go out to the jobsites. Mileage from yard/shop to jobsite is deductible. Question: Is the mileage from home to the yard/shop deductible or commute? Thanks for listening
  13. I still like you. And I knew the answer. I was just hoping there was another way with no Sch A. The lower incomers really take it in the shorts. Oh well. Thanks anyway Pencil.
  14. Client is trustee of deceased father. Trust is ready to close. She took a small amount for her work $1500 Does she need to file a 1099 to herself. She knows it is income and taxable. she just doesn't know if she needs the 1099.
  15. Client just got dinged for overpayment of unemployment for 2010. He paid back the 500+ but wants to know how to get his income tax back from IRS. Do we ament (almost to late). If we do, do we need a knew 1099G. No sch A
  16. I am having problems with my printer trying to print the preparer copy. It prints a couple of pages and then just runs with the receiving data message on the little screen but doesn't actually print any more. I have to turn the printer off and cancel the print job on the computer before turning it back on. Is anyone else having this type of issue? I have an HP Laser jet 4100N. It is about 12 yrs old now. But I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to. Just trying to find out if it is the printer or the program, printer works fine with all my other programs. Also, Is there a way to change the margins on the forms?
  17. open the letter in the return, at the top choose letter options, section 3 other information, choose the one you want. You must do this on both the fed and state letters even if your are combining. Then if further editing is desired you can edit the e-file lines. Hope this helped.
  18. I currently have 3 monitors. big ones. 2are on end (portrait), and 1 regular or landscape. I luv them and it was well worth the cost of the new graphics card. My it guy says he is jealous. My cards better than his gaming card. But I don't see the need for a forth. So tell me how would I use the forth monitor. The one problem is when you get it help on line. Help can't see all the monitors.
