  1. Jack, I am going to have to try this. I am always amazed at how long it takes me to get extensions done. (I have done about 80.) So, do you pull the client' files and just start typing? Then you print and/or e-file the whole bunch? Seems to me all the typing would be a pain. On the other hand, it seems like I am spending a lot of time looking at the screen saying "updating." There's only so much cleaning (yeah, right) one can do while waiting on the return to open.
  2. I have had a lot of trouble when I do a search on this board. I usually don't get anything or way too much. I'm sure it's something I'm doing incorrectly, and hopefully I'll figure it out. Yes, I agree, the amount of info on the old board was awesome; I used it all the time. I have lamented a lot of times over losing that resource! I use these boards, but it's not the same... I hope it's ok to list these on here. I do love this forum, and we'll get there! http://www.quickfinder.com/message_board http://www.thetaxbook.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2 http://www.taxalmanac.org/index.php/Discus...-_Tax_Questions
  3. Oh, it's fine. Just needed toner. Thank goodness I had a cartridge. Also, my #1 printer really did die last week. That was not cool. Murphy's law or something, I guess.
  4. Oh, great, my printer just died.
  5. I don't even drink, and I could slam one back right about now!

    Rejected 7004

Well, that explains a lot. Thank you so much!
  7. On the other hand, some people are top notch. Lady that just picked up gave me a $25 tip and a hug. Awesome!
  8. Many people are self-serving, and it's not just salespeople. I actually had a client call me yesterday planning for 2008. Talked to me for 15 minutes. Ok, it's great that you're thinking ahead, but there's this little thing called April 15... Oh yeh, and an ATX rep called the day before asking if I wanted to renew. I wondered for a moment if it was someone playing a little joke on me.

    Rejected 7004

"EFIN in the return header must be listed in the E-file database and in accepted status." What? Anyone know what this is? Post office is looking better and better...

    E-file 7004

Ok, never mind. KC and Catherine have gotten through to me. Thanks, Ladies! Whew!

    E-Filing 4868's

Thank you, KC. And I think someone else tried to tell me that, but I didn't catch it. Man, that scared me! Reading that red warning after e-filing a bunch of requests. Thank you! Man, I am so tired...

    EFILE - HOLD?

Deb, could you take a look at something I posted earlier? I know everyone is busy, but this is bugging me: Ok, I just now looked at the "e-file info" tab on a 4868, and in red letters ATX says, "This page must be included for any Form 4868 extension you wish to file electronically with the IRS." The form has a blank for date signed. Is ATX wrong up there in red? I have been creating and transmitting all afternoon without completing the e-file info tab stuff. Not yet heard about any acknowledgements... Do we need to get signatures before e-filing extension requests? This seems to be what is indicated, and I have not done it. If we have to get signatures, I'll be going to the post office. No more people, please!

    E-Filing 4868's

So, Booger, does the taxpayer have to sign anything (for us to e-file the 4868)? I am copying from my post on another thread: Ok, I just now looked at the "e-file info" tab on a 4868, and in red letters ATX says, "This page must be included for any Form 4868 extension you wish to file electronically with the IRS." The form has a blank for date signed. Is ATX wrong up there in red? I have been creating and transmitting all afternoon without completing the e-file info tab stuff. Not yet heard about any acknowledgements... Thanks; I am fried. But not a fried booger.

    E-file 7004

Thanks for the info, Catherine. That is good news! I had looked quickly at the tabs at the bottom and saw that I have to input some stuff and was about to just forget about it. I am about whipped right now...

    E-file 7004

I've always mailed 7004's in for my people that need them. Would like to e-file them now if it's not a PITA. For example, does someone (partner/member) have to sign anything before I can e-file the request? Anything to keep them out of my office; I'd rather make a trip to the post office than have them come in. If this has already been discussed, I'm sorry, please forgive me. Thanks!
  17. Well, I DID give them their copies, ("give" being the key word here) so I guess it's their word against mine. How would I prove something like that? I would not put it past them to do that...
  18. Former client, never paid me, comes in today needing copy of returns, per the lawyer. Seems hubby is in some sort of trouble, and needs those copies in the worst way. I remember him well, I did five returns in one year, cause he was "behind" in filing. He PICKED UP the returns, apparently filed them, and actually bothered to come in a few weeks later to tell me he would pay me soon. I tell wife, "No, ma'am, I will not make copies until I get paid the $385 you owe me." She gets huffy, and says, "Are you telling me that you won't make me copies of OUR tax papers?" Me: "No, I am telling you that I gave you YOUR tax papers, you did not pay for MY work, so I am not making copies of my work and giving them to you." "Fine, I will just call IRS and work around it." OK, I know I was a total moron to give them the returns the first time. But I am sitting here amazed that she is actually mad at ME now! Happy Monday!
  19. Hey, that's a good idea. When I figure the monthly payroll deposits, I could also give the members a coupon and check so they can send in a payment. Thanks. (Boy, these people are a lot of work.) I don't sign any checks, so I think Dad really just can't manage money any better than the kids can.
  20. Oops. Sorry, Gene. Actually, now that I think about it, I worked for the government for eight years myself. High school math teacher. Boy, my face is red!
  21. Ok, this is ridiculous. One of the members calls, Dad is all for it, but he wants to open a separate account at the bank, and we'll deposit what we're deducting into that account...blah, blah, blah. Me: That is really not necessary. Kid: Dad is afraid he'll spend the money if we don't do that. I guess the apples don't fall far from the tree. Some people should never own a business. This guy is retired from a government job. That explains a lot.
  22. Update on the members and payroll situation: I cooled off a little, and it occured to me that I can deduct some of their gauranteed payment, let the LLC hold it for them, and use it to make quarterly estimated tax payments for them. They are beside themselves with joy and appreciation, and think I'm a wizard now. I can't believe it. I think my role here is Mom, jainen. You kidder, you.
  23. For people who prepare TN FAE returns, the extension request enters $90 as the amount to pay with extension request. The minimum fee is $100, so be aware that you have to override that. ATX corrected this one year, but apparently we're back to the old programming. I will have to say that I love the clergy worksheets, so I guess you win some and you lose some...
  24. Who are you, and what have you done with jainen? OK, it would be a lot easier on me if all these whiny babies were on payroll. It is quite clear that they can't save the money to pay their taxes. The liability shield has already not only been pierced, but sliced and diced, I'm pretty sure, because of their half-@$$ way of doing everything. But I digress... So, if there is a problem later, you don't think the lawyer will point the finger at me in a heartbeat? Did I mention I was grouchy?
  25. OK, like I need to spend a bunch of time proving something right now. LLC members are just dying to be on payroll. The LLC files Form 1065. (Hey, the lawyer set it up, not me.) I have told them the members are paid guaranteed payments. They are not employees. I researched this two years ago for them, and thought we were all square with it. Head guy sends me an e-mail saying lawyer that set them up says they can be paid wages. I almost feel like showing them the door. The head guy originally wanted his kids (over 18) and the other workers to be members so he could avoid workers comp. Now he wants them all to be on payroll. Sure, I could do it. Probably nothing would come of it. But it is not correct, and I really don't care to do things incorrectly. I feel like the head guy went over my head to the lawyer. I am really irritated. If he insists on putting members on payroll, what would you say to him? I'm thinking, "Been nice working for you." Maybe I'll just shut up and go to bed. Boy, I am so grouchy.
