    MA delays

I was able to find the area of the Solution Center where I could query those returns. Both show "awaiting ack." There is nothing to rehang. Neither went to MA as MeF. I may still call TaxWise & MA tomorrow.

    MA delays

This is inTaxWise not ATX. Both are CCH, so TaxWise may have equivalent. I'll have to look into that.

Nope. I guess I'll be making some phone calls tomorrow.

I will. Thanks for the phone number.

    MA delays

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the handbook, if I don't get acks tonight. I know states always take longer. I got the original rejects within a couple of hours of each other, but the returns were sent 2 days apart. So, I guess I'm not too surprised that these resubmissions take a while to ack (or reject). I can try contacting the transmitter, but I would imagine they are closed for the weekend now that the season is over.

    MA delays

I got 2 state rejects Wedensday (10/6) rejects. Both were MA. Got them fixed (I hope) and resubmitted that night. I still don't have any acks or rejects for the re-submission. Does MA use the same 3 day grace period as the fed? What if they don't send the (2nd) reject in that window? Each has a small balance due ($7 & $39). (I'm hoping they'll ack this time, but I am paranoid since it's already the 18th!) Or, it doensn't matter since MA won't accept the extension if there is still a balance due, anyway?

    Finished.......

Sent my last return after 11:00. Thought that "linked" meant the state would go with the federal (I'm used to the terms piggyback and stand alone. TaxWise uses linked and unlinked.) But I had that wrong. So I waited for fed to ack, which it did a bit after 11:55. Went to send the state and hit software glitch (corrupted e-file). By the time I shut down the software, deleted the e-file & "ratstorage", restarted software & resent OK state return, it was 12:03. Oh, well, it's done now.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess I can finish this after all.

Looks like I can't do this return anyway. Looking at the website for NYTPRIN, it looks like I need that for filing even 1 NY return. This is my first ever NY return. I'm not a CPA or EA, but I am (was?) an RTRP. Am I reading the rules correctly? At least it would save me from calling NY DOR tomorrow. I've got enough other last minute returns to complete.

Agreed! But, frequently taxes will follow their own type of logic. Just not the kind that most humans will understand.

I tried your link and got a 404 error (page not found). She is a 20 year-old Junior. She also has a small TX W2 and a K1 from a OK trust distribution. (Yes, that's fed with kiddie tax + 2 states!) $1300 from TX (W2), $3400 from NY (W2) and $3800 from OK (K1). Your discussion may(?) relate to the next question I had. I had already figured out that she did not have a NY "Domicile" or "Permanant place of abode." So I was comfortable with the NR designation. Now I'm running into the "living quarters" question. The instructions define that as having any living quarters in NY (gee, that helped). It noted that if there over 183 days, she would be a resident. So, does she have a "living quarters" in NY? If so, might make her a resident. Seems strange to me. I guess I get to call NY tomorrow? I may also ask her how her friends file. I know that's not a reliable source, but it might be interesting.

Thanks MsTabbyKats - Parents live here in TX. (I must admit I don't do many state returns, but I sure am starting to see them lately!) I hadn't gotten as far as the NYC rules yet - thanks for saving me that time. I'll add "NY" to box 15. I figured even if I just added it to the return, NY would be happy to have the extra $88 they didn't have before. Since all state and local boxes are empty on the original W2, there was no state or local tax withheld. Thanks again.

Client's daughter (dependent) is going to college in New York City. Earned $3400 which is reported on W2. NY NR threshold is $3000 for single claimed on parents' return. But W2 does not list NYS or NYC. Boxes 15-20 are blank. It also doesn't list any address in box e (only shows her name). I always input the W2 worksheet to match the actual W2. But should I put "NY" in box 15 and / or "NYC" in box 20? Or, do I just input the wage amount on the appropriate NYS & NYC tax returnns? I'm not counting on getting a new W2 by tomorrow? Thanks!
  14. I thought I had my "horrorshow" return (Fed + 4 states) done and ready to e-file. It passed diagnostics and when creating the efile got a series of 'AttachmentInformation' element is invalid - The value '[various text bits from various lines]' is invalid according to its datatype 'MediumExplanationType' = The Pattern constraint failed. The lines they reference are from the Preparer Notes and the IRC staetments. Arggh. Can't find much in the TaxWise Knowledgebase, but similar terms come up for MeF disallowing special charicaters. So I took out all periods, hyphens, commas but still no go. I'll do a bit more digging but it looks like I'm calling tech support tomorrow. Edit - It just wasn't saving my edits. Removed all puctuation and saved multiple times. It has been transmitted!!!! At least if it rejects now, I have my postmark.
  15. Sounds great. I just wanted to make sure anything they considered unresolved from a prior CP2000 would have been included on this one. Or if the 1040X could have opened a new one. Basically I'm making sure the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. Just mild paranoia. Thanks to all for helping me breathe easier!
  16. I must admit I was pretty ecstatic when I heard my client just had a bill for $4. But I just wanted to make sure this really meant what I thought it meant. Just looking for confirmation that it really is over! Thanks.
  17. The $105 was paid with the 1040X (for the RMD shown on the corrected 1099R submitted in July). So now they are billing the interest -- $4 for paying 16 months late. There were no other issues on the original CP2000.
  18. It's all for 2011. This one only references a tax liability of $105 and tax paid is same. The $4 is for interest and there are no penalties. It does not reference the previous amount from the 1st CP2000 or the notice of deficiency.
  19. Update: Client received CP2000 yesterday for $4 interest owed! (It was dated 9/30/13 - that was close.) This relates to the 1040X that was sent in July (with the CP2000). The AUR control number is different from the earlier CP2000 - not sure if that means anything or not. Does this mean they actually matched everything up, and the Notice of Deficiancy is now moot? It's not like I can call IRS and ask. Thanks to all who helped on this process. I really hope this means this issue is complete!

    Mental Health

Minor correction: Bi-polar is the "new" name for manic depression, not schizophrenia. I know this because my mother was bipolar. (Unless they changed the nomenclature again?)
  21. They did add it to 2011. That is where I was looking in 2010. I left them with no form assignment and the did roll over to 2011. I could assign them for 2011. Thanks so much.
  22. I'll check (not on my work PC right now). Your list looks a lot like what I saw in the list and in the help box. Only difference was 2010 didn't include K1P or K1S. Hopefully they will roll-over for the 2011 test. Thanks. I'll look again.
  23. I'm starting my testing of Drake (and other software) with some of my more challenging returns. I took a return from my 2009 ATX and coverted it to Drake to open in the 2010 version. It contained several assets for depreciation as unreimbursed partnership expenses (client inherited and partnership did not make any internal adjustments to basis). This has been handled over the years differently in ATX, TaxWorks and TaxWise. I can't find anything in the help section. Drake did convert the assets over, and assigned them to number "4" - which is correct because they had been associated with the 4th K1. But the first block is empty - because the assets don't belong to A, C, E (here they are refering to page 1), F, OIH. Thanks!
