  1. The reason I started with the iPod (touch) was to have all the benefits of a smart phone without the montly bill (or the phone). You can probably pick up an older one for a low price. Not free, but no montly charges, either.
  2. I'm returning to ATX after several years. I started doing one partnership return in the mean time, so this is the 1st time I've prepared one in ATX. I apologize in advance if these questions are too basic. The partnership is comprised of 2 general partners. It is for a ranch and shows a loss. Problems: (1) Form 1065 page 4 Sch K Lines 14a - c are blank. (2) Form 1065 page 5, (Analysis of Net Income) line 2 a (ii) is not showing the net loss. Line 1 shows the loss, but all Line 2 boxes are blank. (3) Form 1065 page 5 Sch L Line 11 (land) is blank Am I missing a checkbox somewhere? Other comments: (1) The Line 14a worksheet shows the loss in boxes 3a and 3b. This leaves a $0 for 3c which is why 14 is blank. But the Sch K1 does have the "general partner" box checked. Why is it being allocated to "limited partner"? (3) I do have the Land basis in the Fixed Assets and it is coded as "Land" - but many of the fields are shown in red. I do have most of the fields filled in. The sub-category is blank because there are no choices for non-depriciable land. I haven't filled the IRC code (because I haven't looked up the code #), but even when I pick a random code, the values remain red. File was converted from TaxWise to ATX in the 2012 program and then rolled over to 2013. Thanks for any suggestions.
  3. Yes, it can be used on Android and iOS tablets.
  4. I started using it on my iPod, and now on my iPhone. I don't think it can be used on a PC (or Mac), but not sure. I got mine free when I signed up. I don't "advertise" that I accept credit cards but do offer as an alternative when clients don't have a check or cash. It has also been a good alternative vs mailing a check. It's been a good option for me.
  5. I got it last year for testing, but I couldn't convert my "big bad" return that I was using for testing. So I didn't do any other testing. They did send me a CD for 2013, so I'll keep it as a back-up software. I bought the basic ATX, so it (OneDesk) might come in handy if I need more states.
  6. All our Austin (and surrounding areas) schools were closed today. We had some rain but minimal, if any snow. But the temps have been below freezing most of the day. It's currently 34 degrees at 4PM. So, the roads have been icy & there have been lots of wrecks. Yep, the folks in the southern part of the US do react differently to snow than most of the rest of the country. But we see it so seldom and just don't have the experience driving on it. Oh, and we don't have the equipement to handle much more than sanding a few bridges. We're used to being laughed at for closing for one snowflake!
  7. I considered it, but it was several months since I'd ordered it. And for that price I wasn't overly concerned. If it had been the 1st one, I would have asked.
  8. I've used InkJetSuperstore.com and Buy.com (now Rakuten?, but Buy.com still redirects you). I bought 8 generic cartridges for my Canon at buy.com a year or 2 ago for $70 or $80. I did have issues with 1 of them, but for that price, I'm not complaining. (I still have 4 left - so even if none of those work, I'm still ahead.) My default is probably inkjetsuperstore, but the other was just too good a price to pass up.
  9. It took TrueCrypt 12 hours to encrypt the 750 GB hard drive on the i7 laptop. Perhaps BitLocker is faster. Tomorrow I start intalling all my tax software back to 1998 (if it will let me go back that far).
  10. Thanks. I decided to go with TrueCrypt. Started it this morning and it says it has another 6 hours left. Fingers crossed that all goes well!
  11. Thanks Pacun. I am "somewhat" tech savvy, but haven't dealt with encryption before. I've always used password protection but know that's easy to get around. I don't use a network. I keep my laptop in a safe when not using it. But when I travel, I don't have that option. I just want to make sure I don't screw up! I've been reading lots of stuff online. Some says you can do whole disk encryption on Win 7 Pro and some say you can't. It looks like TrueCrypt can?
  12. Yep, that's one of my concerns. Will ATX, TaxWise, TaxWorks, Excel, Word, etc all function properly? No changing directory paths so that s/w can find all their necessary files. Any other concerns to worry about? If I try it and it doesn't work, can I undo it? Just call me paranoid!
  13. Just got new PC with Win 7 Pro. I'm thinking about encrypting the whole hard drive so I don't have to worry about putting folders in hidden containers (so ATX can find all its files). Any pros / cons with Win 7 built-in or wit TrueCrypt? Any major speed slow downs? Anything I need to consider? I want to do it now before I start loading all my programs,so that if something gets screwed up & my computer (hard drive) gets toasted, I can start over more easily. Thanks!
  14. I prefer to pay by credit card, too. I renewed my PTIN last night and could not use a credit card. I clicked the radio button for credit card, but the inputs below that did not change from the bank account input form. So, I put the radio button back and used my checking account. Since I procrastinated until the last minute, I didn't fight it.
  15. Thanks for providing this info. I appreciate it.
  16. I have a few clients who have accounts in Indian rupees. The main impact so far is that 2 of them are now subject to F-Bar. Each of them travels there periodically to visit family, so it's more convenient to maintain an account there. One have them also owns real estate there.
  17. I know you said you were waiting for the conversion. I was just looking for any tips when you get to that point. I wasn't planning on installing or converting until I get my new PC. Thanks!
  18. Another simple summary is the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
  19. Hi Crank For the TaxWise to ATX conversion -- will that be a download or are they sending it to you? I just got my ATX software yesterday but I'm waiting until my new PC comes in before installing it. (My current PC can only use 3 Gig of Ram.) I'll also be interested in any conversion issues you have when you get the program.

    TaxPocket app

Yes, I question several issues, too: security, file types, expense category tools, etc. It might have potential, but I definately want to know more about it before recommending it to clients.

    TaxPocket app

I received an e-mail from NATP that was praising a new app called TaxPocket. It looks like it might be useful for our clients, but I have not tried it yet. It's available for iPhone and Android. Here's their website: http://taxpocket.com/ Just wondering what y'all thought?
  22. I used TaxWise in 2008 and ATX in 2009. Only the basic info converted for use in 2009. Since I wanted my 2 year comparisons to have the right data, I practically had to redo each return. I had "assumed" that since each was a CCH program, the conversion would go better - because they would know the inner workings of each program (regardless of who developed them). I truly hope they've improved the conversion in the last 4 years.
  23. I agree with Catherine. I find all caps very hard to read. And since I e-file everything I can, the IRS gets an electronic version. So, I'm guessing their computers are programmed to read the forms in either version. (I know I really shouldn't make bold assumptions like that - especially with IRS.)

    LAUGH OF THE DAY

I turned off autocorrect. It caused more errors than it fixed.
