  2. You're on your own! Ok. I'll bet some of us will still be here. I for one have over 60 extensions to prepare. Thing is I have about the same number of returns as I prepared last year, and had only 5 extensions then. But this year everyone showed up late and I couldn't get them done. Made for a killer 2nd half of season. Joel
  3. Like the idea of charging lots!!! After reading all the posts I also found Circular E and page 9 provides the same answers. No social security for those under 18, but all older than 18 must pay SS. Still get to offset up to $5k with the standard deduction, so reduces inc tax and provides a lower bracket than mom and dad for everything else on the oldest. Last but not least I need to do 941's and W-2's, 3 more tax returns (even though they are kids), so ADDITIONAL WORK and I CAN CHARGE LOTS! And everyone, even the oldest although subject to Soc Sec does help mom and dad save money. Also, note they are not going to do IRA's. Was never their intention. Was intended to find a way to help fund college and kids do help, so it works on several levels. Although they might consider the IRA's in the future. Thx Much Joel
  4. Wonder if TRX has as many forms as ATX. Nice thing about ATX for someone like me is all the other forms. like Articles of Incorporaton and Sales Tax forms. I don't think you find this in any other package. Joel
  5. just got through to support Apparently their server is "FULL UP RIGHT NOW" (sic). GEESH! I don't need to add any comments to that! Joel
  6. can't send several extensions and 2 completed retruns all are immediately rejected with a SQUIRRELY code that says I need to resubmit after first updating my program. Having updated 5 times today I think I have what I need! This is really putting me behind the eight ball! FORE! OOPS wrong game, 5 in the side pocket please. Joel
  7. Worse than before. Now can't even connect to send returns or extensions! Maybe they should reopen the servers in Maine. Oh no can do they fired everyone over there. Joel
  8. Only way is Sched C. Now I have a new wrinkle. Single Owner LLC investing in RE. Does Sched C cause him Soc Sec taxes when previously he had prop on Sched E. or just IRS exposure because we put on Sched C and don't calc SS? Joel
  9. Have a client that has a sched c business. Paid 3 children for assistance in the business and did not issue W-2 or 1099's and took no social security out. I know that a parent can pay their child and avoid SS tax on the income to them, as well as take the deduction on their sched C. BUT.. one child is 20 years old and in college (still a dependent) the other 2 are minors. 1. Can i take the deduction for the money paid to the 20 year old and can the 20 year old still avoid SS? 2. does it have to be W-2 wages or can I show it as Other income on the 1040? Or do I have to issue W-2's to the 3 kids? Joel EDITED
  10. Do unlimited here and buy the Total Tax Office. Joel
  11. Still no acknowledgments. Getting a little concerned here. I see they extended hours to 11 pm, but maybe they shouldn't have slept like many of us. Joel
  12. Used to use TASSC and they let you file direct with IRS and no efile fees. Was GREAT and I really miss it. Thanks to Intuit, No TASSC though and I would not buy Proseries and swithched to ATX. So CCH take heed! Joel
  13. File a paper return. To late in the season to mess with this issue! Joel
  14. Never seen that many, but for extremely large number of transactions in the past I have recommended either they download the transactions into an Excel spreadsheet that I can manipulate and copy into ATX or a paper filed return and then I only key in one line for short and one for long term and attach the brokerage statement. If they can't do that then they just have to pay the piper! Piper Joel that is! Joel
  15. Heard this song several times. Makes the attorney circuit too. Joel
  16. I do an H & R Block and charge by the transaction when there is a lot of them. Typically $5.00 per each sale covers my time and rate and the rate is $225 per hour btw. So far had some complaints but always was able to get them to understand, pay and come back next year, usually with less sales! Joel
  17. Some company paid plans may be taxable, but usually if the taxpayer/employee pays for it themselves it is not. Joel
  18. William was telling people about this site also, until he got the AXE! Wonder if this was part of the cause of his demise? Joel
  19. it is form 8824. You should be able to do most of the work from the asset entry, but can also enter it direct on the form. Joel
  20. And how about the credit for the Hurricane Party supplies and Mardi Gras. lol Oh hell lets just drink some Hurricanes! Joel <----- married to a Cajun! (for real! and they do throw hurricane parties the rest of us evacuate, one way or the other)
  21. Such a shame, All these types of questions were essentially answered on the old ATX board. THx again CCH! Joel
