  1. What that means is that the total farm income, plus the SE deduction related to it, is the MAXIMUM that you can put on line 2. But you have the option to 'elect' to use less, if it makes the bottom line better. You can simply start with the max amount, calculate the result, then try it with a smaller number and see if that improves the result. If it does, keep playing with it until you find the ideal amount. If it does not help, just go with the max.
  2. I guess it's better to happen now than next week, but only a little better. ;)
  3. So does that mean that the support number is correct, just not working properly? So we will be able to use it eventually? And can we still email YOU when we can't get through normal help channels? KC
  4. It is usually much better NOT to roll over everything in advance, for a simple reason. When you rollover early, many returns will not have all the forms available yet. It will waste a lot of time asking you if you want them to continue to try to roll them over later. And you will still need to update them when you finally do start to do them. If you wait, and roll them over as you need them, they will be up to date with the latest version of the forms, and you only have to deal with it once. And many of them will rollover faster, because by that time the forms will all be available to you.
  5. Also, Kea, debt forgiven in Bankruptcy is never taxable, so that is one problem she will not have.
  6. Howard, I think you must mean 2006 returns, since we are not going to start filing 2007 returns for a couple of weeks, at the best. KC
  7. Thanks for sharing both the good and the bad suppliers. It's human nature, I guess, but we all tend to be quicker to spread the word about a bad source, but forget to praise the good ones. We can all be a good resource to our friends by sharing both here.
  8. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. It's good to know. And thank you for joining us here on the board. You are very welcome here. I'm worried how many other problems will show up due to the firings.
  9. I am not sure, but my guess would be that it has to do with reprogramming the IRS computers, for that specific form, rather than anything to do with the law itself.
  10. Well, it seems at least one of those 'guests' was William, who has now joined the group. I hope you all let him know how much we look forward to his being an active member! You can find his post by searching for a member named "William-ATX".
  11. William, we are DELIGHTED to see you on here. I sincerely hope that you will grace us with your presence whenever you have the time. And I am happy to hear that you are still with the company. I must say, after the farce that their 'Training Seminar' turned out to be, my feeling about the future for the company are very mixed. It sure seems that they are letting TaxWise take over things that they are not competent to take over.
  12. :bday:
  13. It has to do with their computer systems. SSA has up-to-date equipment that can read the black and white forms. IRS is still using outdated equipment that can not. The basic problem is that the IRS computers are so critical to their operation that they can not seem to be able to update their system. It's crazy, but they have tried at least twice, spending BILLIONS and have had to scrap them each time. And to think some people want to let the government run our health care system too!!!
  14. You are certainly welcome, Terry. Greatland is another source, also with better prices than Nelco. http://www.greatland.com/
  15. There are a few minor changes I've noticed. The Error report is now listed in the print menu. The print Preferences now lets you choose to have the mailing slips print the t/p's return address centered like it is now, or over on the left, in case you use standard window envelopes. That's a nice option, I think. Especially for the smaller returns, which don't need the big envelopes that cost more now. That is all I've noticed so far.
  16. There is no way to have too much backup. Multiple sources is the best, I back up to flash drives, as well as to another computer, and also to CD's. The flash drives are rotated, so that I have 4 backups back. I also check that the files are good, by plugging the stick into my home computer and pulling in files and opening them. I use a different drive Mon through Thursday, then back up to a CD on Friday. And to the second computer every night. I'm planning on getting a removable drive, to use at least once a week, but for now the flash drives are an easy and economical alternative.
  17. Terry, the problem with the supplies is that this year they have stopped selling them themselves, and sent us to Nelco. I can tell you that you can get equal qualify ATX compatable supplies from Tenenz at a lower cost. http://www.taxaid-inc.com/
  18. I also know of no option that allows for defering only a portion.
  19. I cook it in a skillet, but I cook a pound at a time, then store it in a baggie in the fridge. Just like that expensive bacon you can buy that you just heat up in the microwave, but much cheaper. Then I use it as needed, and have the best of both worlds. Of course, I love the smell of bacon, better than any air freshener. Only things better are bread baking or choc chip cookies cooking!
  20. Try calling Kerry. You had purchased the programs before, so they should be able to send you replacement disks, you should not have to pay for the programs again.
  21. In the past, those old programs were available for $20 each, I'm not sure what the deal is now, but I know you can get them real cheap. In fact, if you bought them back then, you should be able to get a new disk for just the cost of the shipping and the disk. Call Sales, ask for Kerry, and get him to help you.
  22. Actually, your wife is correct. Sugar is used in curing most all bacons, and can make a difference in how the eggs behave. However, if you are cooking the eggs at the correct temp, it should not make them stick to the pan. Of course, how you are cooking the eggs could also make a difference. But try lowering the heat after you cook the bacon, eggs don't need much heat.
  23. It won't help my income stream, because we do tax returns free for disabled vets. But it is always nice to be able to get them back a little more, when they have given the country so much.
  24. I don't see how you could do that, since they did not actually take them out in those years. The only option now is to take it all in the fifth year.
  25. Thanks for that feedback. It does make it more interesting. I have not had time to read the whole case yet.
