  1. I have them up here in Northern Ohio - they have been here for at least 4 years - The one by my office - about 6 miles away - had some type of tie in with teachers union - they teachers could get free tax prep - person went to the Liberty Tax - then came to see me because of all of the mistakes that were made. I am a firm believer that if your office is by one of these franchise tax locations - your business will automatically increase- good luck this season

Any income must be reported whether or not a 1099 was received. If a person receives $1, $10 or $10,000 it is income that must be reported.
  3. It seems to me that first you have to make a distinction on whether this was a new start up business or whether it was a existing business that was searching for a warehouse.
  4. Look at code section 72(t) good luck
  5. I understand the convenience factor - but if you sign returns especially payroll tax returns - the IRS and other State and Local tax authorities may consider you a "responsbile person" - in the event that tax deposits are not made and there is some other hanky pancky, etc you can be held liable for the trust fund taxes. Do you also sign the payroll checks?
  6. I have been in the business since for 17 years and I have never signed a tax return on behalf of a client even with a POA - I would highly advise you not to sign under any circumstances - It may also have an affect on your malpractice insurance. good luck

Try also "cpedepot.com" - I have used this in the past good luck
  8. thank you for making me laugh :)
  9. In regards to the mileage deduction I would say "no" - Mileage is allowed for transportation, travel expenses incurred on behalf of a charitable organization "if there is no significant element of personal pleasure" If your client goes to a movie etc, personal pleasure. In regards to the cost of the litle sisters meals I would say "no" - It has always been my understanding that a charitable deduction either monetary or non-monetary must always be paid directly to a non-profit that has the appropriate 501 status with the IRS. When I donate directly to my local church I get a deduction, but if I invite my priest to an Indians Baseball Game the cost of the tickets, food, etc is not a charitable donation. Good Luck P.S. I notice that you are in Sidney, have you used the "Ohio Cities" Module from ATX Yet? thanks
  10. Garnishments are a matter of State Law - I know that in Ohio Social Security Payments can not be garnished and I have never heard of IRS Refunds being garnished. If your client lives near a major city that has a law school, must law schools have legal aid clinics - I would suggest your client contact them for assistance. Also it appears that the attorney may not have complied with the Fair Collection Act. Good Luck
  11. Did I miss something or does the Social Security Administration no longer require w-2's, w-3 on "red paper"? Client said quickbooks stated that Soc. Sec now accepts "black ink" I guess I have to dig out the circular E that I have around my office somewhere thank you
  12. I think the Taxtalk site might be down - the last few times I tried to log on I could not and prior to that the last post I saw on the site was from teh end of December. good luck
  13. This is the third year that I have accepted credit cards and it was one of the best things I did. I run my cc through Quickbooks - you do not need an expensive card reader - just a hook up to the internet. there is a monthly minimum fee of about $19 per month and they charge about 1.9% of the transaction and once the transaction goes through it gets posted to your bank account within 24 to 48 hours. Not only does it help with my 1040 clients - but also my business clients - I have some business clients that I have on a monthly retainer at the first of every month I charge their credit card on file. I also use it alot with new clients who have tax audits or some other problem with the IRS. anyhow I would suggest it good luck
  14. Maribeth, How long have you been using the cpa secure site for? any problems? do you use it just for your business clients or do you use it for your individual clients also? thanks Mike
  15. To those of you who are conducting some or more of your business online by answering client questions via e-mail or transmitting organizers or copies of tax returns via the internet - I have a question in regards to security. When you transmitt an organizer or a client tax return via the internet do you use any type of incryption? Do you use the feature in Adobe to incrypt a "pdf" file? any comments or suggestions would be appreciated and I hope that eveyone on this board has a great 08 season thank you in advance
  16. Also, depending on how complicated the tax returns will be; I know that the IRS has these prior years in pdf format on their website. Good Luck GO BUCKS
  17. I agree with the others that most of the deductions are not legtimate deductions. I have some police officer clients (including my brother) - I normally deduct cost of ammo, range fees, portion of cell phone. In regards to clothing - up here they get a uniform allowance. The other item that i deduct for my brother is the cost of home security system. My brother is a detective in Cleveland - It is unfortunate but true that my brother and pretty much all police officers have unlisted phone numbers and securit systems for their personal protection. My brother has had people follow him home from the police station. Any how good luck and have a great 08 season
  18. Hello Everyone, Today a client requested that I e-mail them a "pdf" copy of their tax return. I have done this in the past but have always been worried about security of the client's tax return. Is there a way whereby you can encript a pdf file whereby the client would need a password to open the document? What do all of you fine people do? Thanks in advance GO BUCKS!
  19. Good Morning! Does anybody out there use the Document Manager module from ATX? If so how has your experience been with it. Also is anyone getting the "scan and fill" module? Thank you in advance for any comments GO BUCKS!
  20. I started taking plastic two years ago and I am very happy with it. I still receive the majority of my payments by check but it has helped with my cash flow. I currently process my cc through Quickbooks. It is very easy to set up and all you need is an internet connection. No need for a separate credit card reader; no leases. Good Luck

Hello everyone, I feel like I found an old friend with this board. Please don't laugh, but I just found this site thanks to a post on "klienrock" - I remember being on the "old" board with ATX and was shocked when it was discontinued a week before the 15th! Anyhow glad to find this board and I hope that everyone has a great 08 season
