  1. I don't know what it happening, but when I tried to print a late 2006 most of the top of the form, such as 1120S, the form title and line 1 are all missing. When I opened the master form, it is all mangled. I tried to discard the form and replace it, but discard the master is greyed out. I have updated the form repeatedly and it is not changing. I must be losing my mind. I couldn't find anything in the knowledge base. Has this happened to anyone else's program? I opened an old one, and it is showing the same missing stuff. I guess I'll reboot and see if it helps anything. Thanks! Bonnie
  2. I am doing what my attorney has told me to do. When the attorney corrects the subpoena, we will then comply with it. I have no intention of protecting my former clients. I don't think that they can be protected if this is a lawsuit regarding nonpayment of wages. I don't know what the lawsuit is about. I just want to stay out of it as much as possible.
  3. My insurance company apparently has the same idea, about my not being a paid preparer. About a year after I fired them, the idiots wanted more copies of their returns. I called CNA and they also suggested that I tell them that I wasn't a paid preparer. I didn't do it, because I had read conflicting ideas on that. I only spoke to my attorney for a few minutes last week and I haven't received a new subpoena yet. She would have to change a bunch of them if they were all wrong.
  4. My attorney called yesterday and said that I should ignore this subpoena, because it is invalid due to some stuff that the other attorney didn't do correctly. I guess it's good that CNA hired a good attorney, because he is going to call her and have her make the changes and resend it if she wants us to respond. She sent out a lot of subpoenas to banks and what I assume is the CPA they went to after I fired them. I'm surprised that the other attorneys didn't notice the mistakes. He was also surprised that my former client's attorney hadn't contacted me. He did say that when the subpoena is corrected, that I will send the copies and be paid for them. Then I suppose that they will drag me into the middle of this mess, which will really tick me off. I had hoped to never have to be around these people that screwed me out of $2,600 again. Yeah, I know that I was stupid to let them get so far behind, but they promised that they would pay me as soon as they got the business sold. Needless to say, they didn't sell the business and made no attempt to pay me at all. I will just hope that they settle. I am happy with the attorney that CNA hired for me , even though I was hoping to not need to use my liability insurance. I'll come back when something else happens. Bonnie
  5. CNA just called me and they are retaining an attorney to represent me and make sure that I don't say or do anything that I'm not supposed to. I was surprised, but they said that this is a service that they provide to their insureds. The attorney will call me and the other attorney. I'm doubt that the other attorney knows that I only prepared a few of the returns that they are looking for. I have no idea what happened after I let them go. I do feel better now, that an attorney will deal with them and let me know what to do. Thanks everyone for all of the advice. Bonnie
  6. I've only had my work subpoenaed once in a divorce case, and he was still a client so I wasn't sure that I could release information with all of the new privacy rules. No, I definitely don't want to pay for an attorney unless I need to. Do I worry about my work? Not normally, but everybody seems to think that we have deep pockets. I just expected that the owner's would have to produce their own tax returns for discovery. I'm assuming that they have an attorney to fight whatever this case is about.
  7. Thank you, Jainen. I feel a bit better that I should be reimbursed for copy fees. I would want to send a letter to my former clients to sign for release of the returns, because this will probably get nasty. This old employee ran one of their businesses for them and I don't know what is going on. I've been out of the loop for a couple of years. This subpoena is not from a judge, it is from the employee's attorney as part of discovery. I'm not sure why they are not asking my former client's for these tax returns, since they received several copies. If my insurance company tells me that I need to comply, then I will ask the attorney which kinds of tax returns she was requesting. Thanks again. Bonnie
  8. I gave back all of the client's records that I had when I fired them. I also gave the clients numerous copies of the tax returns even though they weren't paid for. This is being subpoenaed by an attorney for one of their employees who is suing the owners.
  9. I'm still waiting for a call from my insurance company, so I'm throwing this out there, because I am totally stressed about this. The subpoena came from an attorney for an employee of a corporation that I fired two years ago for non payment. The subpoena requests tax returns for the corporation, the owner's personal returns and partnership returns for a partnership that the husband and wife owned. It just says tax returns, so I don't know if it includes payroll tax returns for the corporation. I have no idea what the lawsuit is about, probably because they shut the doors on the corporation well after I fired them. I lost way too much money in the first place, because they had been good friends, just slow pay that turned to no pay. I just don't see why I should have to provide an employee with tax returns that weren't paid for in the first place. I wish that CNA would call me back and let me know if this is even legal. Does anyone know if someone will have to reimburse me for all of the copies and do I have to have the pwners' permission to divulge this information. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. Thank you. Bonnie
  10. KC, I will keep Don and you in my prayers. I hope that he recovers very quickly. Bonnie
  11. Linda, Congratulations! I hope everything goes well. It is so much fun being a grandma! We just wish that she lived closer. Bonnie
  12. I can't believe that you didn't flame me for using the wrong form of their. I should have proofed it before I sent it. The reason that I haven't purchased the book is that I can't find anything that says that I have to spend $200 for a book that should mainly pertain to auditors. The ads say that it pertains to everyone, but I'm not seeing a lot of messages from our CPA society or hearing much buzz. I was just asking here, because I am a one person office and there are no practice management groups around here to learn anything from.
  13. I keep getting phone calls and brochures for the new SQCS 7 that say that even if you just do compilations or reviews that this is new rule is going to change the way we keep our records and do business. OF course, then they want me to buy there books to show me what I have to do. I've managed to do some research, but haven't found much to tell me what I am going to have to do. I did find that it applies to your business if you are subject to peer review. I am not renewing my membership with them this summer, so that I won't have to go through another expensive peer review. I only prepare around 25 compilations a year. My state society will do a review every three years for free. How are anyone else handling this new rule? The NE board or society haven't published anything on this as of yet. I don't see how I can stay in business with all of these new rules coming at me from the IRS and AICPA. Thanks! Bonnie
  14. Tom, Your team was played great and looked like they were having a really good time! Looks to be a very nice bunch of boys! Congratulations! Bonnie
  15. Tom, Most people don't think about Nebraska at all, so I'm not surprised that you didn't associate my screen name with it. They do remember us this time of year, and the Olympic Swim Trials start here next week. My son and I are working at them. It will be awesome! He's a swimmer here and was chosen to be a basket carrier for the swimmers, so he'll probably get some tv time. We're watching the game and rooting for your Dogs again! Blast it, Georgia tied it up. Bonnie
  16. Tom. I know, Herscheiser is a jerk! I don't know why they can't get better commentators. Maybe he'll get stuck, because we now have urban and small stream flooding advisories. Parts of town have received two inches in an hour, and they expect the rain to last several more hours. Maybe they will take the night off and Fresno can get some rest. Georgia has had a lot of rest. It is very exciting to see a smaller. unranked school make it to the finals. Lots of the fans are pulling for them. Bonnie
  17. Tom. It's raining here again in Omaha, but my family has been pulling for Fresno since the series started. Hopefully, they will be able to get the game in tonight. This rain is getting really old. Bonnie
  18. I have used Trustfax for two years. I have a higher priced plan, because I send and receive a lot of faxes. I believe my plan is for 1200 pages a year. I love it. I just scan anything outgoing into a PDF file and they fax it. Much cheaper than another phone line and I can pick up my faxes as E-mail anywhere. Bonnie
  19. Julie, Congratulations! It sounds like you found a good place for both businesses. Good luck. Bonnie
  20. Thank you all for the advice. He is already telling her that he doesn't have to claim a bunch of properties as marital assets, even though he is a partial owner. She stands to receive a large sum of money if he has to take all of his assets into account. She says that his family has a very creative accountant that is trying to shield him and I told her that she needs an attorney of her own to force full disclosure.
  21. A friend's daughter is getting divorced. They are using a mediator at this point, but I think that that will change. I told her that she needs to get someone more experienced than me to help her out. My question is, her husband and family own several closely held companies. He wants to give her a corporation with about $110,000 and a car in it. It won't do business anymore. Will the money become income to her when she pulls it out and not a non-taxable property settlement. It looks to me like she would receive whatever his basis is to determine gain or loss. Thanks! Bonnie
  22. My client was a delegate to a non profit convention and was reimbursed for expenses with additional payment of about $500 for some reason. It was all reported on a 1099 MISC in box 7. He doesn't work for the company. He is retired. I don't think that this should be subject to S/E tax as it's not a business for him, but I want to deduct his travel expenses from the 1099. I'd like to report it as other income, but then I can't deduct his expenses. Does anyone have any ideas on how to save him S/E taxes? Thanks! Bonnie
  23. I logged in and all that I can see is my name and address. If I go to the Electonic Filing tab, I can see my EFIN. Where did you see your clients info? I guess I'm not too concerned about privacy, because they are owned by the same company. If they were giving this info to someone that is not related to CCH, then I would have a huge problem.
