    PTIN

I have had a PTIN since they were offered and have been e-filing since the late 90's. Yes, I run a home office ( my ex didn't want me to work out of the home - and now that I have a grandchild, I'm still in the home office) with about 300 clients/yr. I do not offer Rals, RAc's or any other such nonsense...e-file with direct deposit and FeeCollect if absolutley necessary. I take about 32 hours of CPE/yr not because I have to but because I want to stay informed. My rates are reasonable and competitive for the small community I live in. I do have an associates degree in accounting and do have some small business bookkeeping and sales tax accounts. I don't mind paying a fee to be 'official' - and I don't mind being governed by circular 230 rules. What I mind is the same people preparing returns that I have been repairing all these years finding the obvious loopholes in the new regs. They will still find a way to be in business and we, ethical people will have to charge our loyal customers more to cover the cost. In my area alone there is a person in the neighboring city that is 'helping' immigrants get ITIN's - he is not on the IRS approved list of people qualified to do this, but lists his services differently to get around it. I predict the same returns I've been amending over the years by certain people in my area will still have to be amended and the return will say 'self prepared' and he will be charging an e-file fee....ERO's are NOT subject to the new regs...this is not right.

    PTIN

I checked my email this morning and had a PTIN Welcome letter in my box with my original PTIN# also. It seems they resolved their 'verification' problem over the weekend. It was still a mess in my opinion anyway.

    PTIN

Mine's even lower P00017906...lol. Now my application status reads the same problem with tax year and filing status not verifying. Don't tell me the programmers didn't think to include for MFJ where our SSN is listed 2nd on the return?! I've also had the same mailing and permanent address since 1977....I know! We're all a part of the Fringe conspiracy and this is the altenate universe!...lol

    PTIN

So I went through the PTIN - with SSN application and it gave me an error about technical difficulties and told me to cancel. I did and went through the entire application again - it gave me the same error. This time instead of clicking on cancel I clicked on submit again. It went through and I paid my fee. When I went to print a pdf copy my browser opened a new window and told me the webpage didn't exist. Then to top it all off - The application status read that my application was on hold until I submitted additional documentation because I had no SSN??? Was on hold with the PTIN line for over 45min and was told that's a new error - haven't heard that one before, the system is down and call back tomorrow.....
  5. I'd be laughing very loudly except the rest of the house is sleeping..I'm going to remember this one!!! LMBO!!
  6. It DOES show up in the place you mentioned Lloyd...odd though that when I do the math on my particular read out there, the $11 dollars doesn't come in though. The refund amount reads correct, then the feecollect fee, the bank technology fee (the $11 we're all confused with), my prep fee is listed correct, then the check disbursement (or deposit amount to the client). The deposit amount to the client is exactly $70 less than the refund amount....which is $55 to me and $15 for Feecollect. I'll have to wait until Monday to see if the $55 goes into my bank account - or if ATX suddenly says I owe them $11....this is indeed very odd and a huge concern for those of us that don't offer bank products but would still like to get paid by the client whose been on unemployment almost all year and is barely making ends meet....guess I may go back to holding checks for long-time clients if they are indeed adding more fees.
  7. Well, I had one disbursement yesterday and the client received exaclty the amount equal to his refund minus my fee and the $15 fee collect fee. There was no extra $11 showing up anywhere on the SBTG reports I ran there or on the billing or payment info on ATX site for my account there. Not sure where all of you are seeing that extra charge. As for adding it to the return I simply enter my fee on the billing detail then further down check one of the empty options and add the $15 there (my rates are low enough that I have to pass that extra fee on to them - they don't mind). As for the consents they show up on the EFinfo tabs - I just fill them in print them out and give them to the clients along with a copy of the Feecollect they sign for me. Haven't had the fees deposited in my account yet but it usually takes til the following Monday the first few weeks. I've used Feecollect since it was offered years ago.
  8. They have been postings notices on the problem on the website. They have supposed fixed the problem and said that all we have to do is keep trying to get the ACKs as they are reposting them. It seems many have this problem and it may take awhile before all the ACKs are reposted. They also said do not sync or try to retransmit the returns (if rejected) until they have reposted all the ACKs. If you go to the main website you can subscribe to the company info announcements so it goes right to yoiur email.
  9. Oops....I guess I was thinking faster than I could type...the word would be 'have'.
  10. Thanks guys - that's what I thought and I know I'll have to double check WI rules as well. I think I was just having a brain fart as she looked at me yesterday and said "Do you the money I earned last weekend".....LOL

And it looks like we just answered a question from a taxpayer - not a tax professional..which is fine I guess - I answer phone questions on a basic knowledge basis. Would he not still have to consider recapturing depreciation as ordinary income?
  13. I know with all the early problems going with the software and e-file it's probably a bad time to ask advice, but I need to plan for the first quarter (I think). Unfortunately, when I was cleaning for this season I packed away the books I had from seminars 2 years ago that covered employing your children. My daughter has worked for me for a couple of years during the season. I've always done the 945 and W-2'd accordingly (believe I saw a post about this last year somewhere). Never a problem. She is turning 18 this year although will still be high school until June 2011 and will be living here. Do I need to change to regular payroll for her this year?
  14. I also have had no problems e-filing with it. It is not actually included in the e-file info sent as it is for our own records. I also have acceptances back for those with EIC - although all my early are going thru the quirky transmitted/accepted/transmitted thing in my e-file manager (and CCH did post something about working on that glitch, the returns themselves are accepted and fine)
  15. It should also be noted that MAX now has automatic updates as soon as the program starts up. I turned it off for myself (I prefer to check myself a few times a day), but many others may find this helpful.
  16. I have had 2 federal ACKs from returns I e-filed this morning - both accepted.
  17. I have done that before, but as someone mentioned here a few years back, I believe there is some risk of that not being entirely legal. I guess we'll just have to wait and see....
  18. I just received an email from CCH warning that they feel unsure about SBBT being able to offer RALs this season and suggest that people switch to Chase. When I went to the SBBT website to check my details for FeeCollect everything seemed fine and they reassured that everything will hopefully transistion smoothly with their change. Now I'm starting to wonder if it will. My FeeCollect clients are usually the first ones in the door in a week or so. You know the type - "But I need the money as fast as I can and I can't pay you without it". I never offered RALs or anything like them because I personally feel they're a ripoff, but I do have a select group of clients that rely on the FeeCollect option. Then to find out the Asset History was also removed.........I have numerous clients with small businesses and rentals..........Somehow I feel I'll be wanting to forget who I am before my usual time around 2/14 this year.
  19. SBBT is what CCH/ATX uses for FeeCollect - there is an announcement on the SBBT site saying they hope everything works out for RAL/RT. I'm already enrolled and accepted for FeeCollect (only) at SBBT...wonder how this is going to all work out?
  20. Hope all goes well - I still have 20 WI state returns that read 'IRS Cleared' but clients received refunds over a month ago. It seems there was a glitch in the form programming..(of course it's our fault and not the program company)....
  21. I hear you - i wonder myself sometimes...my parents died in their 40's (I have beaten my Dad) and then my baby sister (okay 33 yrs) died falling down stairs and trying to raise 3 kids on a second marriage - sometimes I just warn everyone to block their ears and I SCREAM!!
  22. What really sucks for me is I know many personally - and I don't go to funerals..I just don't(*long story)....
  23. I feel I am burned out - but when somone asks me tax question it's like i'm on automatic - I can't stop myself. Is there a tax addicts group out thereA?
  24. Is it just me or did many of my clients pass...now, hubby is usually good about recognizing names in obits - but this year it just seems to keep going on. I run a personal home office - it's hard to say 'sign here as surviving spouse'...especially when I didn't know it even happened
  25. All I can say after 9 months of looking at new 'bigger' monitor is - eh you get used to it...........
