  1. I have enough to do with my hands with keyboard, calculator, paper control (even in a paperless office!). Plus the issue of replacing monitors that are too far away for comfortable touching distance. I will leave the touchscreen to my tablet, thank you very much. And I just made the switch to Windows 7 a couple of years ago; it's still a half-decade too early to be thinking of another upgrade!
  2. I always run several revisions "behind" the times, figuring the worst of the glitches and problems and security flaws have been addressed.
  3. Had to go back and read about when they update and what they update - because when I checked, they had only about 3/4 the number of my e-filed 1040's. But they update monthly (so likely the April rush is missing) and only with returns processed (ditto, plus possibly late March returns still un-processed). And none of my non-1040 returns would be listed. So don't worry, folks, if the number looks LOW.
  4. They were all pretty darned cute.
  5. Adorable, *slothful* cats, specifically. http://fellowshipoftheminds.com/2015/05/30/cats-who-have-never-worked-a-day-in-their-lives/
  6. Joan - sympathy!!! Good luck getting your data back, and forget ALL about it while you are off at your conference.
  7. Try church groups, too. Her (former) church when she was local to you, a church in her current location, *your* church... wherever you or she might have connections. And once (whatever) is set up, please let us, here, know? I don't know your friend - but I do know YOU - so that makes it my concern, too.
  8. We had two similar situations in the past decade. In both cases, a local bank opened a "foundation" account where people could donate. That might work in conjunction with PayPal (for example). In both cases, various groups (social, church, other) associated with the families involved (AND their extended families and friends) held various fundraisers etc. and there was an account for the funds to go to. Both were very successful in covering costs. My best wishes and prayers for your friend. I will refrain from turning this into a political post except to suggest that jmdavis (or anyone else interested) search at market-ticker.org on health, health care, medicare, and Oklahoma, and read some articles. Silence implies assent; in good conscience I can't do that.
  9. Very true!

Congratulations! Once you are used to the program I think you'll find there is a lot of time savings. I don't recall if I ever took they Myers-Briggs and if I did, what it said about my personality. However, my husband has a bad case of what he calls "Protestant Work Ethic" and I once offered to find him a 24-step program for it. After all, 12 steps isn't nearly enough to address the issue. Sounds like you could join him!
  11. Thank you, Max W.
  12. Does anyone have a WORKING phone (or fax!) number for IRS ACS Support in Fresno? I have 800-829-7650 and have called several times, trying various "options" -- all end with a recording basically saying we ain't talking to no one today. I have a client paying an ex-wife's IRS debt by installment agreement - for well OVER a year - who just got a "you haven't paid so we're going to take action" letter (LT16). We have the installment agreement and a bank history of payments made and I would really love to rub someone's nose in this. I'll do it by mail if I must but would far rather fax or call. TIA.
  13. Telling them they will NOT have to amend their OWN prior-year tax returns should be enough all by itself to get them on board!

I renewed a couple of weeks ago. Also spent a good 45 min with tech support walking me through networking my two workstations so my assistant can do basic data entry and I can just open up the return and go on from there. The guy was really good and really thorough; he knew his networking stuff. It would have been a bit faster if I didn't have a partitioned drive; there were some extra steps. Plus I was taking notes as we went.
  15. Yes, Peachtree has now jumped on the bandwagon of "you don't own what you PAID FOR -- you just lease it from us." NOT acceptable.
  16. To all, indeed. And remember:
  17. Quicken '98 and QuickBooks 2001 were the best versions of those two programs. After that they added useless feature after useless feature, without adding much of any really new functionality, and without fixing persistent bugs from year to year. "New and Improved!" just means it's new, they took out some good stuff, and the improvement is that it now *must* be updated every few years since support stops. Grrr.
  18. I would show it - especially if he owes more taxes. As long as it was all applied to the correct year, if the total comes out they should be OK. YMMV.
  19. hoorah!
  20. Joan - glad you got the help you needed. We're here if something else comes up - to commiserate if nothing else!
  21. Or tomorrow morning; will be conking out now...

I didn't know we had one!
  23. I haven't done a full 990 but I used to do a 990 for a national group that had non-exempt income from an online store. You can call me at my home office; 781-652-8994.
  24. I had a BLT for lunch.
