  1. It is a rollover from last year, but he didn't efile last year. I had deleted the SSN before the last reject. This afternoon I checked for spaces in the name fields. Didn't see any, but I went ahead and deleted everything in the names, and the return has now been transitted that way. I would be very surprised if it would be accepted, but I am keeping my fingures crossed. Thanks for the ideas though.
  2. It's married joint. But it's not the spouse. It's the filer and his name has not changed. I have had a few where the spouse's name was wrong but the efile error noted that it was the spouse then. This says filer.
  3. E-filed return. Rejected for the above reason. I call client up and ask him what his SSN is. He reads it right off by heart. I ask if he has is SS Card with him. He digs it out. I ask him to read the numbers directly off the card. He does, number matches with the one I have on the return. I ask him what the EXACT name is on his card. He reads it off. Matches with what I have on return. So here's the million dollar question: WHAT THE PROBLEM IS???????????????
  4. GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5:00 ESt..... 15 hours in the books already, only 5 more to go.. (If I am lucky) I had the usual late filers, but this year a whole slew of 'normal' filers waited till the last week. So right now, I am working on a partnership and then both partners' personal needs done. Got six returns here partially finished waiting on info. 1 fairly large business not started. And several others still expected to show up. Otherwise, I am just WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :spaz:
  5. Of course......... All that plus free massages!!
  6. Sounds good too. Are you saying the SCUBA lessons would be deductable for business. (for those of us drowning in debt).
  7. I've transmitted several times this AM. Had no problems. No Acks though.
  8. I was worried that I was the only one that gets up at 3 or 4 AM. The last while I usually work till 9 or 10 PM then get up at 3 or 4. I am a much better thinker in the morning than late at night. (hey, who's this stranger in bed with me?) (oh, it's my wife, Hi Hun, good night) ZZZZZZZZ
  9. I know CPR!
  10. absolutely would include frikken bananas (maybe warm coronas too)
  11. How many of you would be interested in having a reunion sometime this summer for the users of this forum? If there is enough interest.. I would consider finding the place to have it. I think it would be nice to put some faces with the "friends" & "personalities" we know so well on here. Families would be welcome of course. (all except chaz) Whatta ya'll think??
  12. If the farm came with a mortgage, wouldn't that be it's basis for this taxpayer? (it hurts if I think too hard, so this is off the top of the head)
  13. I think I would do it this way....... Client goes to her W2 job. Does the required work for the day that needs done for that job. Then she gets in the car and drives home, turns around and drives back to her self-employed job. When she's done with that she drives back home again. Now that there milage is deductable, I don't care what the professional tax preaparers say. A guy on the bus has always done it this way and it works.
  14. starting to hurt?? I don't remember ever being as burned out as I am this year. Roses are red, violets are purple. Sugar is sweet, and so is maple syruple.
  15. >>ask your client to give them his/her correct address.<< either that ... or... move to his primary job so he gets the W2 at his home.
  16. it's comin back.... quick, somebody do something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Ok... thanks for letting me vent. Working 15+ hour days trying to pay the bills tends to make me cranky. I hope inheriting a farm would make me happier, but maybe it wouldn't. Again, I do sympathize with them, and wish them the best. As far as you being 300k in debt when you get their age.... I doubt that's gonna happen. Your too smart.... or you wouldn't be preparing taxes.
  18. First of all... I also sympathize with the now elderly, blind couple who has nothing but a home and a 40,000.00 tax debt. BUT..... (I don't want to sound too critical here) What were they doing all their lives? THEY INHERITED A FARM!!!!. No mortgage interest!!! How did they get into a position to lose everything. It's not like they had the farm to pay off and couldn't make the payments. I can understand a period of bad luck, but did they have bad luck all their life??? Even renting out the fields would make a considerable income all these years. What about timber?? Without knowing more...... have they lived a lazy "good" life till it finally caught up with them. It's hard to have pity on them if that is the case. And it sounds like the son is following in their footsteps. Otherwise, I have no other ideas for you to help their current situation. And remember, it's not your fault if they owe taxes. (OK, I feel better now)
  19. on a beach??
  20. So far I have taken 1150 mg of acetaminophen (among other stuff) with 3 cans of pepsi. Why the H am I sleepy?
  21. sounds like a good idea......BUT...... wouldn't I have a bigger headache in the morning??
  22. and don't know what to do about it.
  23. jklcpa... You are thinking the exact same way that I was. But if I go to the 5329 and and enter an amount on line 2, it doesn't figure the 25% penalty on any of distribution amount. Of the 27K distribution only 5700. of it was contributed in the the 2 year period prior to the distributiion. My thinking is that the 5700 would be the only amount that is subject to the extra penalty. jasdlm... I am cunfused too, and thats probably why its not making any sense. I can't find anything either about the reallocation changing anything. AND..... am I not thinking correctly that the 5700. would be subject to the 25% penalty? If a distributuion is made at least 2 years after the plan was established, is nothing subject to the extra penalty? (thought I could figure it out this morning with a fresh brain, but it ain't happenin)
  24. I received an offer via email, phone (twice) and regular mail. I told them to wait at least till after tax season. (it feals so good to be wanted)
  25. In 2006 taxpayer became self employed and rolled over his previous Simple plan that his employer had sponsered into an account that he continued to contribute to in 2006 and 2007. Then in december of 2007 he takes a lump sum distribution of the whole amount, $27,335.21. Has $2647. Federal Tax withheld. Code S on 1099-R. In April of 2005 he had Re-Allocated a large amount of the distribution from a Money Market Account. This amount would be over the two year holding period before the distribution. Is there anyway to avoid paying the 25% penalty on this amount since the 1099 is coded S for the whole amount? I am sure he is not expecting to pay $6800. in tax next week. But "it is what it is". Any ideas? Suggestions? Beautiful day here. Windows wide open!!!!!!!!! Tee time anybody??
