I have never used ATX to efile W2s and have a question. In the employer info.. there is space for "SSA Assigned user ID". What exactly is that? Do I need a different one for each company that I am filing W2s for? Can I use one for all companies? Does the T/P have to sign a signature form etc? I know I should research this on my own, but thought maybe someone could give me a quick heads up. (starting to get busy here) Thanks!!

Anybody have any idea when form 4562 will be ready to efile?

Don't Forget To Add Real Estate Tax to Standard Deduction
Ray in Ohio replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
Granny Coral....... Which is greater?? The total of his 'regular' Standard Deduction plus the $500 RE taxes ($5950) or The total of his itemized deductions ($5142) "Does he still add the 500 to the 5142 to bring it up to the 5642 which is lower than the 5950 he would get if he didn't file a Schedule A at all......?????" Isn't the $500 already included in the 5142? why would you get to add it again? I think you are over thinking the situation and therefore creating confusion. If the total of all itemized deductions is greater than the "regular" standard deduction plus $500.... you would choose to itemize. Otherwise use the standard deduction plus $500 in RE taxes (single) if TP paid at least $500. -

I have several amish clients who are self employed and have over $3000 in Schedule C or F income. These clients are exempt from paying SE tax by filing a Form 4029. Thay also have no taxable income after deductions so they are not paying any income tax. The IRS calculator is processing the rebate checks based on the information from Schedule SE. In these cases there is no schedule SE and therefore the IRS computers are not catching the self employed income on these returns and therefore there are no rebate checks being issued. It is my understanding that the rebate check qualifications are over $3000. in SE income. I have not been able to find anything stating that it does not qualify as 'qualifying income' if it is not subject to SE tax for the above reason. If anyone has experienced this situation or anyone has more information or has the urge to dig up more information, I would love to hear from you. I have called the IRS numerous times, and the agents I talk to do not know anything about this form 4029 and therefore are unable to provide an educated answer. Many thanks to anyone with any information.

Does it make a difference if they are scheduled to get their rebate in May or July according to his/her last two digits of SSN? If they are scheduled for late June or July I would consider an extension. You can get a SS number in 10 days to 2 weeks. I would think if you file in two weeks from today they would still be in time to get their rebate check on time. For a May shedule it might delay the rebate. This is just my thoughts, no references to show.

just curious if anyone has received and Acks today? I keep checking periodically. It really flies thru the sequence but no acks. I'll let you know if I get any.
-
Right now I have 21 returns in validated status. Should I be nervous? For some reason, I couldn't care less what happens with them. If the stupid rotten idiots wouldn't wait till the last minute to file they wouldn't have to worry about a possible penalty. I had way more clients wait till the last week to get their taxes done this year and I have no idea why. So we'll see what happens the rest of the day today and make the best of it.

Client Refinanced in 07 - Any schedule A items?
Ray in Ohio replied to miatax's topic in General Chat
Are you saying the balance of the unamortized points would be deductable in 2007? If so I never realized that, but it makes sense. (don't know that I've ever come across that yet, but I wouldn't have known if I did)
