Tax Program

I just found this community, answer to a browser request, thank you for setting it up again. I was lost the latter part of tax season w/o a place to seek advice and read others notams. I did not post often but did several times. Read it more than posted.

Now I am wondering, Is ATX software going to continue, or will it be replaced by something CCH puts forth?

Even though I am an EA, I no longer have a long list of clients. Got rid of most of the clientele several years ago, but stay with a few select ones that I kept. I cannot afford to go with CCH, but am accustomed to the ATX format. Wondering if anyone knows of any alternatives that do not cost and ARM and a LEG.

Good to be back with friends.

Good to have you with us. As far as we know, ATX is remaining the same for 2007 with the exception of some of the pricing going up. You should have gotten both a mailer and an e-mail regarding your renewal. If not, go to the website and check out the pricing for the materials that you are interested in. Also, 10% discount if ordered before June 30. Good Luck and welcome aboard.

You might want to check out the TRX Alliance. You should be able to google it and get to their website. I've been considering going with them because of the price. They are a group of independent preparers that have joined together to get a discounted price on software and efile services and bank products (if you so desire).

The are a licensed distributor of the ORR Tax program. If you join the group for 299.95 (price good till end of june, then 499.95) They send you the complete program from 2003 thru 2006 so you can get started and do present and past returns. You get the 2007 program when it is released at the end of November 2007. They will send you the demo, and I am still working with mine. The TRX Alliance gal has called me a couple of times to answer my questions and walk me through a few items. The program is complete Federal 1040, and all business programs (1041, 1120, 1120S, 1065, etc.) And efile is included at no charge. They will even provide you free client folders and other materials.

Very temping for 299.95.

Has anyone else out there ever used ORR Tax?? Comments??

I checked their website too. Did you see that this is a membership in their "alliance" to promote their "brand name" nationwide and that they want you to add their name to yours? And also that your membership is subject to approval by their board of directors?

Yes, I noted that info also; however I don't see that as a major problem, even to apply to belong to an Enrolled Agents chapter, you have to be approved by BOD. My main concern would be ease of use of their software, with a plus for all of the "freebies" made available to you (including state returns). Free Efiling is also a plus, but I don't hve that many now to be concerned with the over min. chg of ATX. The ease of operation and support service during filing season would be my main concerns.

I already added EA to my name, so adding their brand name (TRX) should not be that much of a problem, as it only goes on the bottom of the filing and the invoice for me.

In conversations I have had with the TRX representative, I asked her what else do they require?

She said I don't have to add TRX to my name, can if I like, but don't have to. And I can offer RAL/Rac's but don't have to. They just know the more preparers are in the group the better discount we can all get. Talk to them they are helpful. By the way I am still working with their demo... no decision yet for me. I hate to learn new software!
