  2. UltraTax also doesn't allow payments to be scheduled after the filing date after April 15, so it must be an IRS thing. You can schedule a payment date on DirectPay. Note that you can only schedule a payment no more than 365 days in advance and for no more than $10 million!

  4. According to the Federal News Network after this years layoffs/deferred resignation confusion, the new budget for the coming year proposes to hire 11,000 new call center employees in order to maintain current levels of phone service https://federalnewsnetwork.com/workforce/2025/06/nearly-25-of-irs-tech-workers-are-gone-forcing-agency-to-reset-and-reassess/ I really wonder, "Are there any adults in charge of this train wreck sliding downhill

  5. The new commissioner is truly a reflection of our political system and our society
  6. Promoted fraudulent tax schemes and sponsored legislation to eliminate the IRS. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/ex-congressman-billy-long-confirmed-as-commissioner-of-the-irs-an-agency-he-once-sought-to-abolish/ar-AA1GBkal
  7. Why do you think you can't have multiple LLCs in one 1040. I've had two Sch C LLCs and even multiple Sch E LLCs? Is it because you're trying to use 1099 input forms? Or are you talking about some state level problem?
  8. Please make is so I can have multiple LLCs in one 1040 and make it so they don't have to only be tied to a Sch C. And while we are at it, please make it so I can pay multiple fees at once for these LLCs (NY). Oh thank you great ones.
  9. Don't forget the new administration plans to stop mailing refund checks September 30th and to stop accepting payments by check then or shortly thereafter.
  10. Send him to IRS DirectPay so he can get a payment confirmation: https://www.irs.gov/payments
  11. Sounds like Drake (and ATX also) are not the problem, but the IRS itself won't allow direct withdrawal after April 15, even if they have extended the due date. Doesn't make sense. I think my client wants to pay on October 15th, so I'll just send him a voucher and he can send in a check any time he wants. Thanks to all -
  12. If your client wants to pay on Oct 15th, you could hold the return and file on that date. The funds will be withdrawn within about 2 business days. ATX has the same issue as Drake, you can't go out even 1 day. I filed a return a few weeks ago after the end of the banking day, so smart me I put in the next day as the bank withdrawal date. REJECTED. Even at 10PM. It is just the rule that if you owe and you efile and you want the direct debit option you pay immediately...but I don't have a source for that rule. Tom Longview, TX

  15. I think the reason checks are cashed expeditiously is that the IRS does not do it. They contract it to a lockbox service that opens the mail, deposits the checks and sends the IRS a report. I might be wrong, but that was my understanding.
  16. TexTaxToo is correct, and you are correct, Corduroy Frog. You do have until the later date. But Drake won't allow scheduling payment after the *current* date if that date is after 4/15. The only way to pay later, electronically, is by doing so online via Direct Pay or EFTPS. Or, your client can mail a check to arrive by the date they want to pay. The IRS is very quick about cashing checks; it's about the only thing left that they handle expeditiously.
  17. The MeF (efile) system will not allow future direct debits to be scheduled after April 15 when efiling a return. The IRS does not modify it for postponements due to disaster declarations. I believe the taxpayer can still schedule future payments using Direct Pay or EFTPS at https://www.irs.gov/payments
  18. For this year only, Tennessee has been told they have until November 3rd to file, pay, pay estimated taxes, whatever. A return I completed owes $35,000 (not the real number) and client wants to pay it October 15. Drake won't allow it. Their message says April 15 is the last acceptable date, and goes on to say that this is true even for states with disaster declarations. I've second-guessed Drake before and I'm usually wrong, but I'm wondering if they've updated properly.
  19. " The first nattional income tax in the United States was enacted in 1862 to help finance the war. It started as a 3% tax on incomes over $600 and 5% on incomes over $10,000. These rates were later increased, and the ceiling for the lower tax rate was lowered in 1864. " The Grant Administration repealed these taxes in 1872
  20. I thought that Income Tax only started in 1913 with the ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment.
  21. "In 1867, William M. Springer refused to pay the federal taxes he owed, resulting in one of the first tax cases heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. Before the matter went to the Supreme Court in 1874, how did the government collect the tax due?" In January 1867, after Springer refused to pay the $5,279.78 owed (including tax and penalty), the tax collector levied property in Springfield, Illinois, that Springer owned. The property was advertised and sold at public auction on March 15, 1867. The matter eventually landed in the U.S. Supreme Court (Springer v. U.S.), with Springer claiming that the tax was a direct tax and therefore unconstitutional, and that the seizure and sale of his property deprived him of his property without due process of law. The Supreme Court rejected both arguments and affirmed the federal government's power to levy and collect income taxes, including through the seizure and sale of property. "
  22. Thank you, Abby, for the great reminder. The IRS must RECEIVE the amendment by 10/13/2025. I've been forgetting that lately with e-filing. If you have to paper file, between the USPS and the IRS brokenness, who knows when the IRS will receive any given piece of mail !!!
  23. There is no mailbox rule for amended returns. The return must be received by the IRS by 10/13/2025. Fortunately, efiling makes that easier.
  24. I was looking for clarification on this same subject. Had a client come in with all years from 2020 forward. She wants to clean up her act. Unfortunately, she would have had refunds in the early years. Makes me sad as she has good intentions and truly wants to get "right" with the IRS.
  25. He can file an amended return at any time. He can receive a refund if he files within 3 years, by 10/13/2025.
  26. I have a client who filed their 2021 personal income tax return on 10/13/2022. An extension was timely filed on the due date of 04/18/2022. I'm looking for clarification on the date he can file an amended return and receive a refund. According to IRS instruction for 1040X: "Generally, for a credit or refund, you mist file Form 1040-X within 3 years (including extensions) or within 2 years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later." Does this mean that he has until 10/13/2025 to file an amended return? Thanks.

  28. Wow, I never knew you could do that. Thanks @Lee B Tom Longview, TX
  29. Now my client's corporate refund for $1,015 showed up in their bank account 6 weeks late on May 27th with no explanation? Hopefully, they don't mail the check the IRS representative scheduled? I don't even know what to say
