  3. I think I like the clerk's response. I assume she meant, ''You don't look that old" rather than "I don't think anyone born in that year could still be alive."

  4. I was around for the last quarter (roughly) of that year. So here is a giggle for y'all: less than two months before my 56th birthday I got carded! Was buying a bottle of wine at a new-to-me grocery store, in company with Gwen (the younger daughter). Cashier asks for my ID. I asked if she was serious and she said yes. Gwen & I both busted out laughing, I handed my license over, and the response was, "I don't believe that year." But she let me buy the wine...

  5. Results of Professor’s Bold No Email Policy Enforcement Will Give You Something to Think About Spring-Serenity Duvall, an assistant professor at Salem College, was tired of spending hours and hours sifting through student emails that could be answered by what she had already covered in class, had been asked in class, or had simply already been written into the syllabus. So Duvall came up with a bold policy, one that she was a little nervous to enforce: No emails unless you are scheduling an in-person appointment. Duvall told the InsideHigherEd she experienced “unqualified success.” Students came to class better prepared and were turning in papers that were much higher quality. Her email inbox was less full, and her office hours and one-on-one time spent talking and bonding with students was the highest it had ever been in her academic career. She was, however, “afraid that maybe they were keeping their thoughts to themselves, and they would slam me on the evaluations on how much they hated the policy.” But not the case at all. On the contrary, students rated her availability as “excellent” and overall evaluations were higher than ever before, with many students citing that they felt Duvall genuinely cared for their education. Email is very convenient and fast, but for many situations, there really is nothing like talking things out face-to-face.

  6. Sorry you did not like it, but I do not accept your characterization that I ever censored anyone's posts. I got plenty of feedback that disagreed with me, and never objected unless the post was abusive. Judy, who is also a mod here, often disagrees with me on politics, but we remain friends because we both value and respect each other.

  7. No "gloves off" here, on ANY forum, professional courtesy is expected here. And general consensus has been that jokes, laugh of the day, etc, are welcome. Easy for any 'grumpy cats' to simply skip.

  8. It makes perfect sense. I always deal with 1099s issued to my clients even if they wrong. I guess this 1099 was left out when taxes were prepared. $50K in rewards! That means this person has a million dollars in Citi bank and he didn't want to pay about $300 in taxes, even though a 1099 was issued.

  9. Isn't Drake wonderful? It is just full of surprises, and it seems every one of them increases efficiency. Increased efficiency = increased speed = increased profits. I like that math :)

  12. I'm paper filing with the 8944 attached. I have a hardship waiver number. It is quite a hassle to go to the client info screen and click on that alternate preparer, but I struggle through the ordeal. . Or I could write a macro...

  13. I suppose they could hit you with preparer penalties? Other software I've used had a box to check if you were a nonpaid preparer and it would type 'Nonpaid Preparer" in the signature box. Not sure if that means anything.

  14. Also a perfect example of the power of 'facts and circumstances'. And why a good professional uses his knowledge and experience when thinking of what can be defended, I've seen posts stating that you should not even have personal pictures in your office! Ridiculous.
