  1. I have back to 2004 on Vista with no problems. No hoops, just regular installation.
  2. I have gone as far back as 2004 and the rate charge list is not available. I am hoping that it is available in some type of data or backup file, I have copies of those, however, I am unable to identify it. The KB does not seem to be of any help. I know I should have kept a hard copy, however, i thought my backup system would be sufficient. Once I solve this I am going to a clone backup system. I don't what to have to go through this again. Do you have any other ideas of where I can look? If not, so I don't have to recreat the Titanic, do you or anybody have a form based rate scheduel i can review and adapt as necessary for my client base?
  3. What I meant by having my computer rebuilt is that it was erased and then the operating system reinstalled and then I put the programs in and so on. I am unable to locate the file that contains the fee schedule. That's my problem. I tried your solution, however, as you can imagine, it was to no avail. Thanks for the hint. I do have the program files backed up on an external drive, however, I am unable to locate the file. I have tried ATX to no avail....
  4. A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about fee schedules, which I summarily dismissed because I was set. Well, it seems that my computer decided to hicup and I had to have it rebuilt. One of the things that was missing was my rate schedule. Well, I can't seem to locate it in my backup data or program files, so I decided if I have to redo it I might as well look for input. So, unless, someone can tell me how to relocte it my backup files, do anybod have a link to that discussion or a copy of a forms based rate schedule you would like to share. My e-mail address is [email protected]. Thanks.
  5. <<<4. How may legal installs can I do? One computer per license, but check the license for details. If you want one copy at work, one at home, and one on your laptop -- that's three licenses.>>> Based upon the facts and circumstances a single copy of Office 2007 may be installed on three computers.
  6. Timely posting. I was using version 4.0. It will not load to my new vista system so a free update is kind cool. Just ordered it and will be here by 31 December. Thanks for the posting.
  7. Export/Import...that does it, Thanks.
  8. I just purchased a new laptop for the next tax season and am in the process of transferring the progams and data from old to new. I can get the programs okay, however, I seem to be doing somehting wrong on transferring the returns. I must be having a bad day because I can't even seem to find the KB article. Can somebody give me step-by-step to back up and restore new computer of the KB article numbers. If you would prefer to use e-mail, send it to [email protected] Thanks Mike
  9. Lion is correct, under MyAccount there is a section listed as Unlock Codes. While mine does not include all of them it does include '03-06. None before and '07 is not listed.
  10. Here's what the PayPal website says> * Low transaction fees 1.9% to 2.9% + $0.30 USD * No monthly, set-up, or cancellation fees * Get paid by anyone . even by customers without a PayPal account * Accept credit cards, debit cards, bank transfers, and PayPal See demo. I'm not trying to sell it, just indicating there are alternatives. I believe you can set PayPal and ProPay up on your website also.
  11. I can't remember what this service costs, however, you may want to check with PayPal and ProPay. They only cost pennies and I think the maximum set fee is $35.
  12. I received my CD yesterday and intalled it okay. My problem is that my new computer won't be here for another 10 days or so, then I have to transfer everything and do another install. See you then.
  13. Last year it was not uncommon to have to wait quite a while for it to load after the activation code was inserted. Try it again, go have a cup of coffee and come back and see how it is.
  14. The hobby loss part I have covered. I have not got all the info yet to assure me that this is a business, but, at this point I am leaning in that direction.
  15. I have a client that started a dog breeding business (it may read puppy mill, I don't know yet). This is a topic I have not handled before. Can anybody direct me to some source of information? Thanks.
  16. I just updated my program and there are not two lines for mileage. I take that back. It is okay.
  17. So they put a different one on the CD? What a great outfit?
  18. I found a 2008 tax organizer on the CD that had the archieved copy of the ATX program on it. It makes no sense to me why you would make an organizer that does not have the mileage split time period on it. For those who have an internet based clientel, like me, the organizer just generates a followup e-mail or an explanation with the organizer that the clients don't read. They did the same thing a couple of years ago when we had the split year standard mileage rate. This is not rocket science.
  19. From the OP: They tell me we should not have to pay and they will take care of it. The preparer of our return just left out the form on the return. The wording suggests to me that the preparing firm/preparer had computed the form but did not include it when the return was submitted to the IRS. If my interpretation is correct, that would tend to indicate that the preparer made an error, whether he was an attorney, CPA, EA on unenrolled preparer. In my practice, when I make a mistake I don't usually charge the client for it. I eat it and use it as an encouragement to not make that same mistake again, or for that matter, try not to make any. Just my two cents worth.
  20. I assume you are going to contest the bill?

Thanks for the links. I had the Hammer link but had forgotten about it. The first link is new to me. Thanks again. Mike

    New Law

I will be teaching a CPE class next week on clergy taxes. This will be the third one this year so I have the topics pretty well nailed...at least I think so. However, they want six hours. I tried to talk them down to three or four but.... So...as a filler and to ensure that I cover the time I thought I might do a little review of the laws that ended 31 Dec '07, 08 and the new laws effective 1 Jan '09. As I monitor the time I may intersperse this throughout the presentation or at the end. I think I have it covered, however, do any of you have any web based sources that would be good for me to review to make sure I am up to snuff? Thanks. Oh, yes. Any good tax jokes would be good also.
  23. This brings up an issue I would be interested in. What online sources do you use to keep updated. For example, is there a source you would check first for updates that apply to changes for 2008 taxes?
  24. I'm curious. Did the '04, '05 and '06 returns also show a loss?
  25. If his temple is part of a national organization, they may be covered under a blanket exemption. You may want to check that out.
