  1. Jack from Ohio is making a prediction... "All those that jump ship for tax year 2012 will wish they had stayed by the end of the tax filing year.
  2. I would have figured that people from MA would know how to keep warm in the winter.
  3. Ravcrashes, the firm I work for has 2,900+ returns. We have used ATX since 2002. I am the network and computer administrator as well. rfassett is total correct in all his statements. Go back to Proseries sounds like the best option. I am sticking with the software. CCH is a lousy company. The rework of ATX is 5 years overdue. If you had been using ATX for the previous 4 years, you would know that it is incompatible with netframework 4 which is essential for all Microsoft Server software since Server 2008 came out. The only reason ATX has been compatible with Windows 7 is the ability for 7 to emulate xp.
  4. No smiley for rolling in the floor laughing my backside off!!!
  5. J.B., Reboot your computer every morning before you start, after your lunch and supper breaks. Trust me.
  6. Apparently jealous of her business success. The lady is single with no children, so the 40% is probably close to correct.
  7. Then go buy Drake, make the conversion, and quit complaining!!!!!
  8. Patience is the word of the day. Problems are being dealt with.
  9. We have a client who is under audit for 2010. The audit is for her Schedule C. She has large Office in Home deduction. (40%) The auditor is being extremely intense about every single detail of every line of the Sch. C, far more intense than audits we have assisted with in the past. Taxpayer lives in a small town where the auditor's supervisor also lives. Taxpayer thnks the supervisor has a personal vendetta against her. Can we ask, or demand, a different auditor and supervisor? Anyone faced this before?
  10. HV Ken is exactly right!! Hire a qualified I.T. person to fix your network. I would say you have been guessing about computer, program and network configuration for 7 years. We have used ATX in the network mode since tax year 2003.
  11. Why are you using import/export of returns this early in season?
  12. Drake is not similar at all.
  13. The same issue exists. Changing software is a HUGE deal for us. No matter when, if we choose to change, it is a GIANT problem. You do know that this change was 5 years overdue. ATX has had issues with not being compatible with the common server software since 2006? Add that to it not being compatible with Microsoft Netframework 4, which is used on all Win 7 and newer Microsoft OS. The only reason ATX was compatible with WIN 7 was WIN 7's ability to emulate XP. Give the software technicians a break.
  14. So all you preparers ready to jump ship... Are you ready to deal with the conversion errors and the learning curve of a new program? Tell me how I justify that for the firm I work for with 8 preparers and 2,900+ returns? How do I justify that for my private practice with 160 clients and 200 returns? It is middle of January... I'm not willing to enter all returns totally into a new program. Getting conversions takes at least 14 days or so. Just my thinking.....
  15. The typical results from government bureaucrats applying short term limited thinking to a long term (probably not an issue) problem, then putting their decision on a train at full throttle.
  16. I caught an attitude from the man that he did not think he should have to pay the property taxes. If his property taxes are higher than he can afford, he needs to think about downsizing. No sympathy here. His stunt is not new. How much in arrears were his property taxes to be $14,000? He has more issues than owing his property taxes.
  17. There is no ability to unprotect forms and modify. The ability to modify master forms is still there, but it only allows pre-filling of information.
  18. None of our clients have received the letter so far. However, I would love to see an example of the letter so I can be prepared when/if one of our clients receives one.
  19. You can still attach a .pdf file to the return when you e-file.
  20. I do not believe that this is an option with the new program format. We can no longer unprotect and change forms either. They have had too many problems with people altering formulas and changing things that cause problems with e-file. Too many people who fancy themselves computer pros causing problems.
  21. I have decided not to enter any information in the 2012 program till all the bugs get fixed. If you choose to, you will probably be entering it all again. Still have 11 days till we can file. I will wait and only do things once.
  22. I won't go ballistic, but the court decision supports my opinion about the whole process. See my posts in the other threads.
  23. The 2012 audit rate fell to 1.03% for individuals, one out of every 97 returns. 2011’s rate was 1.11%. The number of enforcement staff dropped nearly 6%, partly due to budget cuts. And many agents were detailed to work identity theft cases. I spend $4 twice a week on the Powerball.
  24. Not in our lifetime... Congress will NEVER give up the total power over the population of taxation.
