  1. This program is NOT the same kind of program from 2011. It is TOTALLY new from the inside out. The thing you seek may not even exist in the manner you are used to seeing. Let the program do the second or third backup. In the backup window, choose a different place i.e. flash drive, external hard drive etc, and do the backup. Do it two or three different places if you choose. It is not yet clear yet where and how the program does these things. BRAND NEW PROGRAM, LEARNING CAPS & THINKING REQUIRED!!!
  2. The IRS does not care about custody battles. The ability to claim a child as dependent is based on the fact, circumstances and very clearly laid out rules. If the parent that is not allowed to claim the child by IRS regulations does so, the other parent paper files, and then sends documentation to the IRS when the letter arrives. I deal with at least 2 dozen of these each tax season. "...and must e-file ASAP to prevent boyfriend from claiming the child." is not reason to hurry the process. In my Not So Humble Opinion, when the amount of tax refund received by claiming the child is the most important thing in the parent's life, they truly have more serious issues that need addressed for the sake of the child.
  3. No idea since the new version is a totally different structure. Seems to me, having the main database in more than one place is a recipe for disaster. I can see no benefit and dozens of dangers and pitfalls.
  4. Same reason I am waiting to file any returns till Feb. 1.
  5. How old is your printer? Drivers up to date? Turn printer off, count to 10 turn it back on. Reboot computer.
  6. Use "Admin" as longin with no password. Username is case sensitive.
  7. I am hearing reports from people using Drake software that 1040's are being transmitted and acknowledged. Anyone on here using Drake?
  8. SW corner of Ohio. 40 miles NW of Dayton. Long trip for you!!!
  9. The cloud is no place for client data. PERIOD.
  10. I have been working on a return for a couple here in Ohio. The process for deciding MFJ vs MFS is much simpler now. I have all three returns open and can click between them. Life is good in Ohio!!!
  11. I have nothing to say except it is 2013, a digital age, a digital career we work in. Those who choose to adapt and learn will be driving the bus, and the rest will be riding. Not seeing evidence of reading every page of the manual.... Good Luck.
  12. At first look, it seems that you are not using ATX as it is designed. Importing instead of rollover will cause you trouble all the time. Look on the menu where the ATX program is listed. There is a 460 page DETAILED user guide that should be read. I have been the I.T. person here at the firm since tax year 2003. We have 2,900+ clients and have managed to have a relatively trouble free experience. There have been issues from time to time. I sense that you have not had many years of experience using ATX.
  13. I do not think anything will be processed before Jan 31, 2013.
  14. Computers must be female!!
  15. Sad fact is that they will not get their refund any faster by going to HRB and paying the higher fees.
  16. My ATX password starts with a 2 digit number and then 8 letters. Each time I have to change the password, I add 1 to the number. I keep a note that says "ATX 23 1-23-13" on my monitor. No one knows the 8 letter word, but I know what the latest password for ATX is that way.
  17. Apparently, I work too cheap!!
  18. Update everything. Close program. Reboot computer.
  19. Client and spouse have filed jointly the past 5 years. He used ITIN for all those filing years. He filed the necessary paperwork and is now (2013) getting a SS#. He should receive it in the next 30-60 days. After he receives his SS#, can they amend prior years to take advantage of EIC that has been denied due to his ITIN? I have found several sources on the internet that say they have successfully done this, but cannot find any documentation or substantiation on the IRS site. Anyone have experience in this area? Just want to be sure before I take this on.
  20. Does anyone on here use ATX to e-file W-2's? I wish to start using the function, and wonder what the steps are to get started?
  21. Plus an extra "Because you waited till the last minute to check on your employee and want me to rework all this in an unreasonably short amount of time" charge. This should be significant!!!
  22. How many people using Windows 7 are having the program crash issue?
  23. The same reason applies to adding custom sheets as to why we are not allowed to unprotect and change forms. Changes to the formulas and program structures were causing innacuracies and problems with e-file. The other reason is, the new format is not excel spreadsheet based. Totally different. This format is going to be here a while, so grab your learning caps and dive in.
  24. I have been waiting for this software rework for 4 years. It is 2013. It is a high tech computerized world. High tech computers and software are NOT like buying a lawn mower. Tax laws, internet safety requirements, the massive number of different programs and "stuff" that people have on their computers, Anti-Virus and Internet Security Suites are all part of our everyday business lives and add complexities that change almost quarterly and it will be this way from now on. If you are not computer tech savvy, you need to hire someone to help you either as needed, part time or full time to take care of all these things. Those who stay up to date and on top of things will be driving the bus, while the rest ride in the back. Everything changes, and the sooner we embrace that fact and stop whining about it the better. Rant over!!!!
