Yes, but you can have a sizable IRA with required RMDs from which you are making QCDs and at the same time be working and maxing out SIMPLE or 401k contributions.
-
Interesting since this only applies to IRA Contributions. If you are still working and participating in a SIMPLE Plan or 401 k, maxing out the annual contribution limit, there is no restriction or limitation. Not a very equitable application of tax law.

And now the most of the Fresno Office has closed so the mail will be forwarded.

Congratulations , Terry I have been an EA since 1992, passed when it was a 2 day paper exam. I have been an NAEA member 3 different times, however there isn't a local chapter, so no local classes. The cost versus the benefits never quite worked for me. Oregon requires me to get 30 Hrs of CPE, which I get from a combination of The Tax Book(self study), and online classes from OSCPA, IRS and the CPAacademy.

My son in law is a Mechanical Engineer who works for Freightliner. Self Driving Trucks are rapidly nearing the point where we will seeing them on freeways.

First, in my state, where all preparers are licensed, the active number of preparers has declined by over 10 % in the last decade. I keep reading where we are going to be replaced by bots? I recently read several articles where forward thinking CPA Firms are creating "Virtual Reality Offices" where their clients will be able enter and meet with their CPA in "Virtual Reality." I guess websites are now "so yesterday."

According to the Taxpayer Advocate the latest numbers are: 1. 8.6 Million unprocessed personal tax returns 2. 3 Million unprocessed business tax returns 3. 5 Million unanswered pieces of taxpayer correspondence One of my family members filed an amendment of their 2018 personal tax return back in the summer of 2020. They call the IRS and check every month. To date their amended return has been logged as "received" however as yet no one has been "assigned" to work on their return.

The limiting factor is often your ISP's upload speed which is usually 6 mbs.

Did you check the Print Manager settings?

This discussion has totally convinced me to add this particular tax scenario to my "Don't touch this list"!

Output it as a pdf file, then print from the pdf copy. ATX has a long history of quirky printing issues.

"The MeF Production System, currently processing business returns only, will be unavailable on Saturday, January 15, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Eastern time."

Excerpt from the Annual TIGTA Report: "The report says “[t]he imbalance between the IRS’s workload and its resources has never been greater.” Since fiscal year (FY) 2010, the IRS’s workforce has shrunk by 17 percent, while its workload – as measured by the number of individual return filings – has increased by 19 percent. The report reiterates the National Taxpayer Advocate’s longstanding recommendation that Congress provide the IRS with sufficient funding to serve taxpayers welL." https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/reports/2021-annual-report-to-congress/ A confirmation of what we already knew

Wow, that would be very difficult to deal with.

Most licensed professions have rules and regulations which codify how they are expected to handle their relationships with customers, clients, patients and etc. Those rules and guidelines cover those situations which are not only black and white but also shades of grey. It's easy to come up with examples of Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants and etc who chose not to follow the ethical guidelines of their profession. After all we read about them when they are convicted or lose their licenses.

"ACA Information Returns electronically filed through the Affordable Care Act Information Returns (AIR) System: • Start-up for Filing Season 2022 AIR Production begins on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 7:00 a.m. Eastern time."

If you subject to Circular 230, then ethics is not a personal choice.

"The IRS continues to reduce the inventory of prior-year individual tax returns that have not been fully processed. As of Dec. 3, 2021, the IRS has processed nearly 169 million tax returns. All paper and electronic individual 2020 refund returns received prior to April 2021 have been processed if the return had no errors or did not require further review."

I just read that self created property is taxed as ordinary income. However when you have a band and record music in a studio, have all of those expenses been already deducted or have some of those costs been been capitalized? If you pay a songwriter xx,xxx for a song is that payment deducted or capitalized?

Marilyn, Great Post! While I am a youngster at 75, I plan on continuing to work as long as my health lets me.

"The IRS will begin accepting all business tax returns at 9 a.m. Eastern on January 7, 2022."

I detect a bit of sarcasm in your response. Unfortunately for all of us, phone support at many places is at an all time worst. I don't use ATX any more, I switched to Drake,so I all I can suggest is keep trying. They used to mail out renewal forms, which could be signed and faxed back. Don't know whether they do that any more?
